Prayer List: 3 – 4 July, 2021

Sunday, (July 4) – Praise God that Jesus gave us a model prayer to pray to our heavenly Father: how to approach God in prayer, the different conversation points we should have in our prayers, and how crucial it is to align our hearts with God’s heart. Even as many of us have committed the Lord’s Prayer to memory, pray that we will not merely pray the words He gave us, but more importantly to use each line as a spark for our own prayers, praying them back to God in our own words through our own circumstances. As prayer is obedience to what God says, ask the Holy Spirit to teach us not to tell God what to do, but rather, to listen carefully as He tells us what to do.

Monday, (July 5) – Pray that God would impress upon our hearts a desire for prayer. Pray that Wesley Klang would be a church that desires communion with the Lord. Pray that no matter what our circumstances are, we will not harden our hearts but that we will turn to God in prayer whenever we hear His invitation. Pray that as we commune with God in prayer, we will experience His unfailing love for us. Pray that our trust in God will grow as we spend time in prayer with our God.

Tuesday, (July 6) – As parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur have been put under enhanced MCO from July 3-16 following the high infectivity rate and the threat of new and dangerous COVID-19 variants, pray that the public will take personal responsibility to adhere to the stricter SOPs. Praise God that with the opening of more vaccination centres, the nation is moving at a rapid pace to get as many immunised as possible. Pray that those living in the rural areas will be able to get vaccinated. Pray against adverse side effects from the vaccinations. Praise God for the white flag movement, and food banks organised by NGOs who are supplying groceries and other essentials to the needy. Pray that the rakyat will contribute in cash and kind to these organisations so the poor and needy will be sustained during this difficult time.

Wednesday, (July 7)Pray for the Nation: Pray that the government will heed the Yang di Pertuan Agong’s call to reconvene Parliament as soon as possible. Pray that when Parliament reconvenes, all the political leaders will put aside their differences and focus on the people and not on politics. Pray that all the political parties will unite to guide the nation through pertinent issues it is going through: to salvage the economy, and find pragmatic and flexible approaches to manage the lockdowns that are causing extreme economic damage, especially to the lower income groups; to remain steadfast towards expediting the vaccination of the rakyat and moving towards herd immunity quickly.

Thursday, (July 8) – Pray for the next generation during this time of the pandemic, that God will sustain them physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Pray that the children and youths will be able to benefit from their online classes. Pray that they will exercise self-control with regards to the internet, and refrain from spending too much time on online games and social media. Pray for relationships in the home – that children will choose to obey their parents, and parents in turn will discipline their children with loving authority and unconditional acceptance. As the next generation is suffering from “online fatigue”, pray for the children’s and youth ministries in our churches to come up with creative and innovative ways to engage with the children and youths so Jesus will be relevant in their lives.

Friday, (July 9)Pray for TRAC: Pray for all pastors in Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC). Pray for God’s wisdom and strength to be upon each pastor as they lead their respective churches. Pray that each pastor would be able to work together with their respective team of leaders in leading the church through the pandemic. Pray that God would guard their minds and hearts so that they will remain focused upon the call that God has placed upon their lives.

Saturday, (July 10) Pray for the World: Many international sporting events have drawn thousands of spectators who gather together in stadiums, with the majority not wearing masks or practicing physical distancing, and already there are spikes in the daily COVID-19 cases in some countries. Pray for wisdom for the organisers of such events to do the needful to control the spread of the virus, and for the spectators to exercise precautions to protect themselves at these events.

Reflection: 4 PRINCIPLES OF BIBLICAL STEWARDSHIP

There are four important principles about Biblical Stewardship we must understand:

1. The principle of ownership.

In the beginning of Genesis, God creates everything and puts Adam in the Garden to work it and to take care of it. It is clear that man was created to work and that work is the stewardship of all of the creation that God has given him.

This is the fundamental principle of Biblical Stewardship. God owns everything, we are simply managers or administrators acting on His behalf. Therefore, stewardship expresses our obedience regarding the administration of everything God has placed under our control, which is all encompassing. Stewardship is the commitment of one’s self and possessions to God’s service, recognizing that we do not have the right of control over our property or ourselves.

2. The principle of responsibility.

Although God gives us “all things richly to enjoy,” nothing is ours. Nothing really belongs to us. God owns everything; we’re responsible for how we treat it and what we do with it. While we complain about our rights here on earth, the Bible constantly asks, What about your responsibilities? Owners have rights; stewards have responsibilities. (Bill Peel)

We are called as God’s stewards to manage that which belongs to God. While God has graciously entrusted us with the care, development, and enjoyment of everything He owns, as His stewards, we are responsible to manage His holdings well and according to His desires and purposes.

3. The principle of accountability.

A steward is one who manages the possessions of another. We are all stewards of the resources, abilities and opportunities that God has entrusted to our care, and one day each one of us will be called to give an account for how we have managed what the Master has given us.

This is the maxim taught by the Parable of the Talents. God has entrusted authority over the creation to us and we are not allowed to rule over it as we see fit. We are called to exercise our dominion under the watchful eye of the Creator managing His creation in accord with the principles He has established. Like the servants in the Parable of the Talents, we will be called to give an account of how we have administered everything we have been given, including our time, money, abilities, information, wisdom, relationships, and authority. We will all give account to the rightful Owner as to how well we managed the things He has entrusted to us.

4. The principle of reward.

In Colossians 3:23-24 Paul writes: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

The Bible shows us in the parables of the Kingdom that faithful stewards who do the master’s will with the master’s resources can expect to be rewarded incompletely in this life, but fully in the next. We all should long to hear the Master say what He exclaims in Matthew 25:21: Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness!

As Christians in the 21st century, we need to embrace this larger Biblical view of Stewardship, which goes beyond church budgets or building projects, though important; it connects everything we do with what God is doing in the world. We need to be faithful stewards of all God has given us within the opportunities presented through His providence to glorify Him, serve the common good and further His Kingdom.

Prayer List: 26 – 27 June 2021

Sunday, (June 27) – Give thanks to God for our many blessings and acknowledge that all that we are, and all that we have is a gift from Him. In response to our generous God, pray that daily we will offer to Him all the facets of our lives, whether it be at home or at work, and we will seek to be patient, gracious, generous and kind to those we encounter. Pray that we will be faithful stewards for the Lord, and He will help us to honour Him in all the places where He has given us influence or authority. Pray that we will strive to make stewardship a way of life and place Him first in our lives by being more prayerful, more focused on loving and caring for our families and others in need, and being less preoccupied with material things.

Monday, (June 28) – Pray for Wesley Klang to be a worshipping church. Pray that God will help us to know that we are created to worship Him in our speech, conduct and in our being. Pray that He will help us to worship Him in the common routine of our daily lives and pray that we would never neglect time with God although we may be occupied. Pray that we would be intentional in seeking God through daily prayer and the reading of God’s Word.

Tuesday, (June 29) – The daily COVID-19 cases show no sign of abating with the numbers remaining above the 5,000 mark, and Selangor being the state with the highest number of daily new cases. Pray that the rakyat will continue to take personal responsibility to abide by the SOPs, and that the authorities will be vigilant in the enforcement of SOP compliance. Praise God that the immunisation programme is rapidly picking up pace and many more people are getting vaccinated every day. Pray for God’s protection upon the vaccination centres, for the vaccination process to be carried out smoothly and efficiently. Pray for safety for all the healthcare personnel and volunteers at the centres. Pray that the nation will be able to achieve herd immunity quickly so that life will return to normalcy.

Wednesday, (June 30)Pray for the Nation: With the federal government’s finances running low, and now that another RM40 billion has been pledged to alleviate the hardships caused by this latest round of lockdowns, pray for effective implementation of strategic initiatives, and for deliverance from a potential national financial crisis. Pray for more prudent financial management, even as the Prime Minister and his Cabinet make COVID-19 financial contributions through salary cuts. Pray for wisdom and courage for the government to make right decisions concerning aid for businesses and the public, including a blanket loan moratorium, an electricity discount and soft loans for the payment of salaries.

Thursday, (July 1) – Pray for the worship teams as they have to resort to pre-recording the worship each week. Praise God for their perseverance to do their best to serve the Lord in their ministry. Pray also for Brother Johnny Lim as he puts together all the various aspects of the worship services each week. Pray that the Lord will bless and sustain him. Pray for our people that they will not neglect worshipping God, and will give priority to worship Him on our weekly online worship services. Pray that in the quietness of our homes, we will be ministered to, and be blessed by the online services and we will grow in intimacy with the Lord as we gather to worship Him.

Friday, (July 2)Pray for TRAC: We commit all of TRAC District Superintendents (DSs) in prayer. Pray for God’s wisdom to be upon them as they oversee their respective churches in their districts. Pray that all our DSs will draw strength from the Lord as they attend to the various needs of their respective churches. Pray for God’s anointing to be upon them in their leadership. Pray that all our DSs will look to Jesus and imitate Him in their call and duty as a District Superintendent.

Saturday, (July 3)Pray for the World: Pray for the political situations in Myanmar and Thailand. Pray for a stop to the flow of arms from Russia to the military junta in Myanmar and pray that the junta will respect the results of the nation’s last election and release all the political detainees. Pray for Thailand as hundreds of people turned out last week to call for the government’s resignation, defying warnings from authorities about soaring COVID-19 cases in the nation. Pray for peace to return to both these nations.

REFLECTION: MY DAD… A REFLECTION ON FATHER’S DAY

I’d like to share with you just a few of the lessons from my dad, about what I’m thankful for and that encourage me today as a father:

MY DAD WAS PRESENT. My brother and I had a busy schedule: Soccer, baseball, tennis, taekwondo, mathletes, geography bees, graduations, swimming, football, basketball…you name it, we did it! My dad also had a busy schedule: work, home projects, husbanding (not a real word). Yet somehow he was almost always there. When he couldn’t physically make it, he’d be present once he saw me next. “How’d it go” he ask, “Did you have fun?”. It’s carried into the present. “How are you? How’s the church going? The family?” These are not remarkable questions, but his consistency in just being there for me very much is.

MY DAD WANTED MY MOM TO FLOURISH. At times my folks argued, they cried, they had all the stuff all marriages have, but I always seemed to know my dad wanted to see my mom flourish and to experience what made her, her. This one is a big one for me! Fathers, help create an environment where your wife will flourish and where she can grow in herself. If she wants to go out, spend time with friends, go to a bible study, or just get a break from life, do whatever it takes to get her there. She is not the babysitter and she’s certainly not your servant. Modeling this Christ-like love for your wife will not only bring great joy to your home now but it will bless your kids for years to come.

MY DAD SAID SORRY. Most of the time he didn’t have to (usually because I was being a stubborn, adolescent bonehead) but when it was needed…well, he did. What this modeled for me easily remains one of the most helpful life lessons: not one of us is perfect and we all make mistakes. It helped pave the road that the Spirit traveled when he saved my heart. Dads, we’re going to make mistakes trying to raise our kiddos right; always apologize when you need to.

Ultimately, God, our heavenly Father, must be our hope and the One we strive to be like. I often ask myself, “How does God treat me?” and attempt to do the same with my boy. I also encourage you to remember that the entire Bible is the story of a Father’s pursuit of His children and creation. Therefore, whenever we read Scripture we can learn more about how to be better husbands, fathers, wives, mothers, children, etc. I also want to specifically address those who read about what I learned from my earthly father but don’t share in that experience. Take heart knowing that in all the areas that our earthly fathers can and may fail us, our heavenly One never will. He is with you always, loves you perfectly and has and will always do what will cause your greatest good…even when you don’t realize it. But isn’t that what being a kid is all about?
Blessed Father’s Day and God bless!

(VINCE GARVEY)

A PRAYER FOR BIOLOGICAL & SPIRITUAL FATHERS & GRANDFATHERS

Heavenly Father,
Shower Your blessings upon all biological and spiritual fathers and grandfathers.

Grant them wisdom to guide their children along right paths.
Grant them the strength to forgive when their children stray from those paths. Grant them perseverance as they provide for the needs of their families.

May Your love shelter them in times of need, and expand their capacity
for forgiveness, kindness and compassion.
You, who is Father of us all, hold all fathers in Your arms and
generous heart.

Amen.
