Prayer List: December 3, 2021

Sunday, (Jan 3) – Give glory to God as the Creator of all things, that He spoke, and the universe came into existence; and at His command, flowers, trees and plants sprang from the ground, the seas teemed with living things and the earth with living creatures. Praise Him that the crown of His creation was humanity made in His image, and He gave us dominion over all the earth and everything in it. Ask God for forgiveness that we have failed in our stewardship to rule the earth, and have polluted His beautiful creation because of our fallen nature. Pray that the Lord will help us put on a new self, created to be like Him in true righteousness and holiness.

Monday, (Jan 4) – Praise God for Pastor Gaurri, our new pastor in 2021. Pray for God’s hand of favour, wisdom and blessing upon her as she takes over from Pastor Ashok. Pray that she will form good relationships with the church staff, the church leadership and all the members, and will enjoy her tenure here as Klang Wesley’s pastor. Pray also for Pastor Ashok as he moves on to be Associate Pastor of KL Wesley. Pray that he will work well with the pastor-in-charge, Rev Andrew Lim. Pray that he will also form good relationships with the church staff, the church leadership and all the members of KL Wesley.

Tuesday, (Jan 5) – Thank God for helping us make it through 2020, that He carried us through the uncertainty, the trials and the hard losses. Pray that 2021 will be a year of new beginnings, fresh starts and hope, as we leave behind the tragedy of 2020. Pray that the Lord will give us faith to know that regardless of what the past year has been for us, we can start afresh this year with His grace and strength. Pray that we will live this year not with our heads looking backwards, but that we will run with confidence into the plans and purposes He has set before us. Pray for breakthroughs in our spiritual life, that we will be more responsible in our pursuits, our faith and our prayer life.

Wednesday, (Jan 6) –. Pray for the Nation: At a time when the nation is struggling with shrinking incomes, a faltering economy, a weak government and a raging pandemic, pray that politicians will not focus their time and energy on frivolous issues. Pray that every evil of extreme, divisive and selfish partisan politics fed by the lust for power and control will be defeated. Pray that the spirit of mediocrity that is diminishing the productivity of the nation and the minds of the people will be replaced by the pursuit for excellence. Pray for a restoration and a rebuilding of our nation where truth, righteousness, justice, excellence and prosperity will prevail.

Thursday, (Jan 7) – Current active Covid-19 cases in the country have exceeded 21,000 and daily new cases are close to 2,000. As the conditional MCO was eased for the sake of the country’s economy, pray that the rakyat will be responsible citizens, and continue to be vigilant in following the SOPs. Pray that the people will exercise restraint, and not engage in big social gatherings, or flout the SOPs, thereby exposing themselves to any risk of infection, and also causing further strain to our healthcare system. Pray that the public will learn to live with the new normal, and not behave as if the pandemic is over.

Friday, (Jan 8) – Pray for TRAC: There are 2 very important TRAC meetings on January 8 & 9, 2021. Firstly, the new Board of Ministry meeting, and secondly, the new Executive Board meeting. Pray for Rev Ashok, who is the new Board of Ministry Chairman, for wisdom and good management skills. Pray also for Rev Joshua Khong as he leads the Executive Board as the new TRAC President. As both meetings will be online meetings, pray that the IT connections will work well, and everything will go smoothly.

Saturday, (Jan 9)– Pray for the World: Pray that the highly infectious coronavirus variant discovered in Britain will not spread to other nations, as governments take appropriate precautions against it happening. The fight against COVID-19 has seen vaccine development move at record speed, and there are 4 categories of vaccines in clinical trials now. Pray that the vaccines will be effective in protecting people against the virus, will have minimal side effects, and will be made available to the entire world.

Unity

In our impossibly fractured culture, we live with the tension of disunity every waking moment. Hate, dissension, and contempt flood our news feeds daily. Whether we are discussing politics, racism, cultures, parenting, church practices, or sports teams, we set up divisions and demand everyone take a side. We slice and dice our opponents with wit and verbal ingenuity but leave behind a trail of broken relationships. While this may be normative of the culture, as believers, this should not be so! Our unity is crucial for the sake of the Gospel.

In Romans 15:5, Paul writes, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” One heart? One mouth? How is this even possible? Spend enough time in church culture and you will quickly realize the issues that drive brothers and sisters in Christ apart are numerous and often trivial. In addition, the family of God is derived from many different races and cultures all with their own interpretation of how the Gospel should be lived out.

Again I ask, how is unity possible under these conditions? Jesus answered this question in His prayer for all believers shortly before His crucifixion. In John 17:20, He prayed, “I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me, that they may be one as We are one: I in them and You in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.”

First and foremost, our unity with other believers depends on our unity with Christ. It is through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit that I am made one with the Father just as He was made one with Christ. This holy union is the basis for all other relationships. Once my vertical relationship with Jesus is correctly aligned, I can begin to love those around me deeply and authentically.

Our unity is not based on shared cultures, personal interests, or personal tastes, but on something much deeper and more profound. It is not what we have in common that matters, but WHO we have in common. Sometimes Jesus will be all that connects us, but that connection will last an eternity. There are a thousand ways to splinter a church and only One Way to bring it together again. We don’t have to see eye to eye to walk hand in hand, but we must be walking the same path and headed in the same direction.

In Romans 14:1, Paul encourages us to “Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarrelling over disputable matters.” Love one another, stand firm in the essentials, and be charitable in the small things. A unified church brings glory to Jesus, and when Jesus is glorified, the world will sit up and take notice.

Prayer List: December 27, 2020

Sunday, (Dec 27) – Pray that God will bless our church members with unity, and grant us patience and humility, bearing with one another in love as we work together for the good of His Kingdom. Pray that the Holy Spirit will birth in us the character of Jesus so that we will be kind, compassionate, loving and forgiving towards one another. Pray that, as a united family of God, the Lord will enable us to be the light that leads non-believers to Him. Pray that we will be good role models to the people around us so they may see Christ and His love in our unity, and will want to know Him more and more.

Monday, (Dec 28) – As we come to the end of a turbulent year where our lives were turned upside-down by the pandemic, pray that we will take time to reflect on all that has happened to us in 2020. As we cross the threshold of a new year, pray that we will use this opportune time to re-evaluate our lives in the light of the future: how we will use 2021; what our priorities will be; whether the things we do and give our lives to are of utmost importance in the light of eternity; and most important, how strong and deep our relationship with God is.

Tuesday, (Dec 29) – Selangor continues to record high numbers of Covid-19 infections because of the large population, the frequent movement as well as the emergence of clusters at workplaces. Cumulatively, the nation has exceeded 100,000 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. Pray that the public will not grow complacent after months of having to follow the SOPs, but will continue to work together vigilantly with the health authorities to bring down the daily infections. Pray also for all frontliners, for protection from the virus, and physical, mental and emotional strength.

Wednesday, (Dec 30) – Pray for the pre-recorded online Watch Night Covenant Renewal Service that will be broadcasted tomorrow at 10p.m. Pray that we will be encouraged and renewed by the service as we reaffim our covenant with God, and recommit our lives to Him in the year ahead. Pray also for good participation from our members for the prayer meeting via zoom at 12 midnight tomorrow, and for the Morning Watches on Saturday to Thursday, January 2-7, 2021, whether we come in person to the Multi Purpose Hall in church, or virtually via zoom. Pray for the Lord’s presence and guidance as we seek Him in worship and intercession.

Thursday, (Dec 31) – Pray for the Nation: Pray for God’s power to break and demolish strongholds in the unseen dimension of demonic activities, secret plotting, evil human manipulations and witchcraft in our land. Pray that the Lord will overturn the corruption of money politics, which overshadows elections and decisions on government regulations, policies and procurement actions. Pray that there will be real and effective accountability at the very highest office of government, especially from the very top of the Cabinet down to the Civil Service.

Friday, (Jan 1) – Pray for TRAC: The postponed installation of the new TRAC President, Rev Joshua Khong and the Ordination Service of Rev Lester Lim (Elder), Rev Jonathan Chan, Rev Wong Chun Mun and Rev William Kwong (all Deacons) will now be held on Jaunary 2, 2021 in Ipoh. Pray that all will go well. Pray especially for the new President, for God to grant him wisdom, strength, love and grace as he carries out his duties. Pray also for journey mercies for all who will be travelling to Ipoh fo this event, and that the Lord will protect them all and keep them in good health.

Saturday, (Jan 2) – Pray for the World: The United Kingdom has to battle a new and more infectious strain of the Covid-19 virus and the government has imposed tighter restrictions on millions of people in England. Pray that the people will be patient and cooperative, and not vent their frustration on the government over the restrictions. Pray for wisdom for the government to deal with this new virus strain. Pray also for the healthcare frontliners, who are already exhausted and discouraged, for God’s protection, strength and grace as they continue to tend to those infected with the virus.
