Scripture Text: Matthew 3: 1 – 12
Introduction
To repent is something more than just stop doing wrong things. To repent is to stop and turn around.
Explanation
* The emphasis of repentance is on turning. It is a decision we make to turn from sin in order to turn towards God
* Repentance is always a personal response. Faith is always a personal response. God does not have grandchildren. He only has children.
* John points to Jesus as the one greater and more powerful one.
Final Word
When Christ comes again, may we be a wheat ready to be gathered up into God’s kingdom.
Reflection Question
1. How does repentance look like in your personal life?
2. Are we resting in rituals; are we resting in our family lineage or are we bearing fruit in keeping with repentance?
3. Knowing that Christ will come again with a winnowing fork in His hands, are we then ready for His coming again?
