Prayer Points: December 15, 2019

Sunday, (Dec 15) – Pray that God will flood our hearts and souls with joy this Advent season as we reflect on the good news of Jesus’ birth, and welcome Him to be our Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. Praise Him that our joy is encompassed in Christ alone, and does not come from our jobs, families, relationships, finances, or our successes, but is a gift from God. Pray that the Lord will help us focus on Him during this busy season, and that we will stay aware of the joy He brings into our lives. Pray that we will choose by faith to make the “Good News of great joy” a reality in our lives, so others can see us as lighted trees of life that point to Jesus this Christmas.

Monday, (Dec 16) – Pray for good health and God’s hand for protection for all those who are involved in the Christmas Musical. Pray that God will bless the presentation, and that everything will flow smoothly for the final rehearsal on Thursday, December 19, and that all problems and difficulties will be ironed out. Praise God for everyone in the musical – from children to youths, to adults and senior adults, and pray for a spirit of love and unity to prevail throughout. Pray that we will not depend on ourselves, but on the power of Christ, so that He alone will be glorified.

Tuesday, (Dec 17) – Pray for the Nation: Praise God for the freedom of worship we enjoy in our nation. Pray that the Christmas carols in the shopping malls, streets, homes and churches will bring the words of life and hope to people who are searching for the truth. Pray that during this Christmas season, the hearts and souls of many pre-believers will be filled with the joy, peace and hope that only comes from Jesus, and they will put their faith in Him.

Wednesday, (Dec 18) – Praise God for the many things He has done for the Raub OA Hostel, beginning with the hostel being completed and furnished to the employment of a senior citizen lady to be the warden (working together with 2 other ladies who are OA pastors). Thus far, there are 36 children enrolled to stay in the hostel when the new school term begins in January 2020. Pray that the long-range goal of equipping the children both academically and spiritually will be fulfilled. Pray that the children’s sentiments of missing their families will be lightened by the love and joy they find in God, their new friends, and the 3 ladies who are in the hostel. Pray for protection on everyone, especially at night.

Thursday, (Dec 19) – Pray for the Christmas Musical Outreach that will be presented on Saturday, December 21, 2019. Pray that God’s protection, blessing and favour will be over everything, and the presentation will go smoothly. Pray for good weather, and that many pre-believers who have been invited will come. Pray that the message of the musical will be presented clearly and powerfully. Pray that the Holy Spirit will move powerfully in the hearts of the people, and that all fear, doubt, prejudice, or any other obstacles that hinder people from coming to Christ will be torn down, and people will respond to the invitation to put their trust in Christ, or to rededicate their lives to Him.

Friday, (Dec 20) – Pray for TRAC: Many TRAC churches will be having special events for Christmas. These include several non-English speaking congregations within TRAC (e.g. Mandarin, Tamil, BM and other languages of South East Asia). Pray that the message of Christmas will come across clearly. Pray that all our TRAC churches will have greater love and compassion on the needs of the communities near their church’s locations and meet the needs of poorer people this Christmas season.

Saturday, (Dec 21) – Pray for the World: Major Christian celebrations are often a time when extremists from other religions decide to make violent attacks against Christians. Pray for members of our Christian family around the world who live in such contexts, whether Islamic, Hindu or Buddhist, that they will be kept safe. As angels helped Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus to escape persecution, pray that angels will watch over believers this Christmas season.

Living The Advent Peace – Luke 1: 68-79

After 400 years of silence, Israel waits in the midst of darkness for God to speak. As Zechariah enters the temple and receives the news of God’s plan, once again God’s message is met with unbelief and doubt. How fitting that He would silence a man so that God’s Word would be heard.

God’s message of a coming Messiah had been promised right from the very beginning. In the Garden, man’s rebellion broke God’s perfect world and their perfect relationship with Him. Perfect union with God was replaced with enmity and peace on earth was only a flickering hope. Even in the darkest moments, God’s promise to restore and redeem has been a constant. The prophets spoke to pronounce God’s judgment on injustice and His punishment for a people who seem hell-bent on living out from under the sovereign reign of a good and loving God. Over and over again, we have rejected God’s message, doubted His promises, and lasted on our own wisdom. Choosing to trust our own hearts and to live out our best ideas has only brought more hurt and pain and injustice to our world. When would we experience the peace we so long for?

When God finally allows Zechariah to speak, he bursts forth with prophetic praise that shatters the silence and announces a new dawn. God’s hard-hearted people will be rescued. The Redeemer is coming soon and He will have the power of salvation. Though we sit in the darkness of death, Jesus, the Light of the world will lead us into a new kingdom where we will finally experience lasting peace!

For Reflection:
• When you think about the world we live in, where do you see turmoil? What would it look like if God’s peace replaced the strife and injustice you see?

• Spend time praying for God’s kingdom to come in ways that would point people to the peace only Christ can bring.

• Where in your relationships is there division or conflict? Would you say your home or workplace is a place marked by peace? How could you be a peacemaker in those situations?

• Pray for those in your life who need the peace of Christ and ask God to show you where your heart needs to be transformed to live at rest, trusting His promises.

Prayer Points: December 8, 2019

Sunday, (Dec 8) – Praise God that He is the God who gives peace, who entered our world at Christmas as the Prince of Peace. Thank Him that regardless of our circumstances or situations, He can fill us with a deep and abiding peace that surpasses all understanding. As peace on earth can only come when our hearts find peace with Christ, pray that we will trust fully in Him, and rest in the peace that only He can offer. Pray that the Lord will keep us in perfect peace as our minds are stayed on the truth of His powerful love. Pray that He will help us share His peace with everyone we encounter, especially those who need it most.

Monday, (Dec 9) – Pray for all our human relationships, especially those in the Body of Christ. Pray that God will help us as His children to walk in a manner worthy of the calling He has given us. Confess to the Lord that our hearts are not always tender and kind to others, and ask Him to give us His tenderness, His kindness and generosity of spirit. Pray that we will learn patience for one another, bearing with one another in love. Pray also for marriages, that God will enable husbands and wives to deepen their bonds as they face life’s challenges, and to guide their hearts to see their marriages as a precious gift from God. Pray that God will grant parents strength and wisdom to guide their children in the ways of the Lord.

Tuesday, (Dec 10) – Pray for the Nation: Pray against any spirit of greed and selfishness in our leaders, which will lead to blindness in conscience, disability to discern unrighteousness practices, and disregard for the well being of the nation and the people, especially the poor. Pray that God will set all our leaders free from the influence of greed and selfishness, so that they will lead the nation with selflessness and generosity. Pray that God will bless the 4 parties in the government to work in unity and harmony.

Wednesday, (Dec 11) – Praise God for a very successful Kids’ Holiday Camp, that God’s hand of favour was upon everyone in the camp. Pray that the Holy Spirit will seal in the hearts and minds of the children the lessons they learnt, and they will grow up knowing that God loves them unconditionally, and has empowered them to live abundant lives as they put their trust in Jesus. Pray that the parents will work together with the Sunday School Ministry, and will reinforce what their children learn in Sunday School. Pray that God will continue to bless our children’s ministry, and cause it to grow broader, with more children coming, and to grow deeper, that the children will deepen their lives in Christ.

Thursday, (Dec 12) – 24 boys from our Boys’ Brigade (BB) will be going for a BB Camp in Gopeng from December 14-16, 2019. The purpose of the camp is to build relationship between the officers and the boys, to train the boys in leadership skills and to foster team spirit in the BB. As the campers will be roughing it out – living in tents, exploring caves, and other out-door activities, pray for safety and God’s protection upon them, and for good weather. Pray for journey mercies as the campers will be travelling by bus. As the camp is also a reward for the boys for their hard work, pray that they will have a great time. Pray also for opportunities for the Christians to share about God’s love to the pre-believers.

Friday, (Dec 13) – Pray for TRAC: Both TRAC churches in Penang will be having one new assistant / associate pastors each. Rev Shearn Sya will be associate pastor of Trinity Methodist Church under Rev Ronald Yap’s care, and Pastor Luke Ng at Penang Wesley under Rev Ting Moy Hong’s care. Pray for a smooth transition as they leave their current churches and serve God in new situations in 2020. Pray for good relationship building between the respective pastors and their new congregations. Pray for Mrs Shearn Sya (Gervaine) who is a dentist, who will have to look out for employment in Penang.

Saturday, (Dec 14) – Pray for the World: Many countries in the world are currently experiencing war, violence and terrorism, and innocent people are suffering. Pray that the Prince of Peace will cast out the political structures that perpetuate violence, and the hatred that leads to indiscriminate violence. Pray that the Lord will send down wisdom upon politicians and diplomats to find peaceful political solutions’, and the commitment to work together to end the hatred and violence.

Advent Week 1 – Living The Advent HOPE Isaiah 9:2,6-7

The Old Testament chronicles the journey of God’s people. In it, we see a growing desire for the fulfillment of a promise, the arrival of a king that would lead them. This king would be different from all the others and His kingdom would be an everlasting one. The Messiah, the Christ, the anointed one would come from God and begin a revolution that would change the world forever. This would begin a time when God would come to live amongst His people in a new and profound way. We often forget that these were dark times for God’s people. Sin had led to injustice and oppression. They needed to be delivered, but not just from the problems that surrounded them, but from the brokenness that resided in their own hearts. As we prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Jesus, we can experience the tension of the deep longing and joyful expectation because we know the end of the story.

What we may easily overlook is that Advent is not just a time when we look back but also a time when we look forward. We also live in dark times. Sin still gives birth to brokenness in every sphere of existence. As you study the news cycle you might be tempted to despair, but God’s plan is still working. We don’t yet see the fullness of His kingdom, but we catch glimpses of it as we labor to make Jesus known in our own families, in our city, and around the world. God will make good on His promises and Jesus will, once again, come for His people. This is a time to remind ourselves, not just of the reality of Christ’s incarnation, but also His promise to come again and forever set things right. On that day we will be finished with sin. No more will we carry the heavy burden of living in a sin-sick world where pain and tears seem to often prevail.

If you are like me, you have grown weary from the brokenness within your own hearts. Day after day we are forced to wage war against our flesh and the sin that so easily deceives us. Jesus has dealt with the penalty for our sin, but we still experience its pervasiveness and power. Soon, He will come and remove its presence completely and we will be with Him forever. This is a time to look back. To see God’s promise fulfilled in His coming and to look forward with eager anticipation for His return.

For Reflection:
• Think of an event in your life where you waited with a longing expectation. What were you waiting for? How did you feel in the waiting? What was it like when the event finally happened?

• Think about someone you know who might be feeling overcome by darkness. What are some ways you can point them to the hope of Christ’s advent this week?
(JON LOWDER)

Prayer Points: December 1, 2019

Sunday, (Dec 1) –Pray that God will show us the distractions in our lives that block us from all-out worship of Christ this Advent. Pray that as we celebrate the first Advent – the first coming of Jesus – we will look toward the day when we will see Him face to face. Pray that God will give us hearts that look for His coming on a daily basis. Praise God that Jesus is the Hope in our dark and messy world. Pray that this Advent, the Christ Child will help us to slow down, listen to His voice, and focus on what is really important. Pray that we will place our hope in Him in all areas of our lives as we prepare our hearts to celebrate His birth.

Monday, (Dec 2) – the Kids’ Holiday Camp will be held from Wednesday to Saturday (December 4-7, 2019). Pray that the camp will run smoothly – registration, teaching sessions, food, games, crafts, worship. Pray for God’s anointing upon the 2 speakers, so the teaching will make an impact in the lives of the kids. Pray for God’s protection upon all the kids, and all who are involved in the camp, especially those who will be staying in the church. Pray that the parents will be supportive, and join the programme on Saturday, December 7, so they will be able to journey with their kids after the camp. Pray for good weather, and for everyone to have a good fun time at the camp.

Tuesday, (Dec 3) – Pray for the Nation: One in 10 children experiences some form of sexual abuse in Malaysia, most often at home and by fathers entrusted to protect them. The tragedy is that shame continues to keep the abuse hidden, silence victims and shelter perpetrators. (The STAR, November 29, 2019). Pray for God’s wisdom upon the authorities so they will vigilantly enforce the laws that safeguard children from sexual violence, and the perpetrators will be caught and severely dealt with. Pray for God’s protection upon our children, and for those who have suffered abused, He will bring emotional and mental healing to restore these children.

Wednesday, (Dec 4) – Pray for the preparations for the Christmas Musical Drama. Pray for good health for all those involved in the musical. Pray for good coordination between the actors, singers, dancers, musicians, crew, sound and media team so that the entire musical drama will run smoothly. As many of the people involved will be going for camps, and for holidays, pray that the Lord will bless the musical as we learn and choose to depend on His grace, so that all glory will go to Jesus alone.

Thursday, (Dec 5) – Pray for the LCEC Budget Meeting on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Pray for God’s wisdom and guidance upon all the chairpersons of the various committees and organisations, so they will come with a realistic budget for their committees/organisations. Pray for a spirit of unity and love to prevail, and for the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance upon the entire meeting. Pray that the leaders will be sensitive to what God’s will is for the church in 2020, and that all decisions made will be in line with what God desires for Klang Wesley next year.

Friday, (Dec 6) – Pray for TRAC: Pray for the Sengoi Missions Conference (SMC). TRAC President, with 5 clergy and 3 lay members of the SMC, has formed a task force with the agenda to improve the image of the pastors and ministry staff, to explore ways to enable the SMC to become financially self-sufficient in the future, to improve prudence in expenditure, to study the condition of the Sunday Schools, and to see how attendance in the worship services can be improved. Pray for God’s wisdom upon this task force. Pray that positive and practical steps can be agreed upon, and the SMC will be fully independent (of TRAC) sometime in the near future.

Saturday, (Dec 7) – Pray for the World: In Bangladesh, Christians are prone to be persecuted. Pray that the training that prepares Christians for persecution will be effective and help believers stand firm in their faith. Pray that they will respond to their persecutors with love and forgiveness, and thus win them over for Christ.
