Prayer Points: December 1, 2019

Sunday, (Dec 1) –Pray that God will show us the distractions in our lives that block us from all-out worship of Christ this Advent. Pray that as we celebrate the first Advent – the first coming of Jesus – we will look toward the day when we will see Him face to face. Pray that God will give us hearts that look for His coming on a daily basis. Praise God that Jesus is the Hope in our dark and messy world. Pray that this Advent, the Christ Child will help us to slow down, listen to His voice, and focus on what is really important. Pray that we will place our hope in Him in all areas of our lives as we prepare our hearts to celebrate His birth.

Monday, (Dec 2) – the Kids’ Holiday Camp will be held from Wednesday to Saturday (December 4-7, 2019). Pray that the camp will run smoothly – registration, teaching sessions, food, games, crafts, worship. Pray for God’s anointing upon the 2 speakers, so the teaching will make an impact in the lives of the kids. Pray for God’s protection upon all the kids, and all who are involved in the camp, especially those who will be staying in the church. Pray that the parents will be supportive, and join the programme on Saturday, December 7, so they will be able to journey with their kids after the camp. Pray for good weather, and for everyone to have a good fun time at the camp.

Tuesday, (Dec 3) – Pray for the Nation: One in 10 children experiences some form of sexual abuse in Malaysia, most often at home and by fathers entrusted to protect them. The tragedy is that shame continues to keep the abuse hidden, silence victims and shelter perpetrators. (The STAR, November 29, 2019). Pray for God’s wisdom upon the authorities so they will vigilantly enforce the laws that safeguard children from sexual violence, and the perpetrators will be caught and severely dealt with. Pray for God’s protection upon our children, and for those who have suffered abused, He will bring emotional and mental healing to restore these children.

Wednesday, (Dec 4) – Pray for the preparations for the Christmas Musical Drama. Pray for good health for all those involved in the musical. Pray for good coordination between the actors, singers, dancers, musicians, crew, sound and media team so that the entire musical drama will run smoothly. As many of the people involved will be going for camps, and for holidays, pray that the Lord will bless the musical as we learn and choose to depend on His grace, so that all glory will go to Jesus alone.

Thursday, (Dec 5) – Pray for the LCEC Budget Meeting on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Pray for God’s wisdom and guidance upon all the chairpersons of the various committees and organisations, so they will come with a realistic budget for their committees/organisations. Pray for a spirit of unity and love to prevail, and for the Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance upon the entire meeting. Pray that the leaders will be sensitive to what God’s will is for the church in 2020, and that all decisions made will be in line with what God desires for Klang Wesley next year.

Friday, (Dec 6) – Pray for TRAC: Pray for the Sengoi Missions Conference (SMC). TRAC President, with 5 clergy and 3 lay members of the SMC, has formed a task force with the agenda to improve the image of the pastors and ministry staff, to explore ways to enable the SMC to become financially self-sufficient in the future, to improve prudence in expenditure, to study the condition of the Sunday Schools, and to see how attendance in the worship services can be improved. Pray for God’s wisdom upon this task force. Pray that positive and practical steps can be agreed upon, and the SMC will be fully independent (of TRAC) sometime in the near future.

Saturday, (Dec 7) – Pray for the World: In Bangladesh, Christians are prone to be persecuted. Pray that the training that prepares Christians for persecution will be effective and help believers stand firm in their faith. Pray that they will respond to their persecutors with love and forgiveness, and thus win them over for Christ.

Finding Unity In Diversity

The history of the church has not always been very edifying, has it? And I am sure that God weeps when He sees how Christians have constantly failed to work through their divisions whilst holding on to love and compassion and kindness.

Paul told the Christians in the church at Corinth – who are not handling their divisions very well – that the way they speak to one another, the way they interact with one another, the way they cope with differences, is actually a reflection to the wider world of how Christ responds to difference and how Christ wants to interact with the world.

The Church is the Body of Christ – and how we are with one another speaks to the reputation of Christ in the world.

The Church is the Body of Christ – it is not just another interest group, it is not just another club we can join.

The Church is the Body of Christ in the world – and we must keep that foremost in our minds every day of our lives because you and I are representing Christ to the world in how we live and how we speak and in how we love…

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:12-20 that we shoulder a great responsibility as we participate in the community life of our church. We are reflecting God to the world in our words and our deeds: what people see of us, they see of God – and we need to live up to that responsibility. That means, of course, that each one of must be mindful of how we conduct ourselves at work during the week, within our family lives, and when we are out socialising – because what people see of us, they see of God.

But as a community together, we must shoulder the responsibility of being the Body of Christ together, which is a holy calling. We must hold fast to our unity. We must embrace and celebrate our diversity. We must move as one body, supporting and encouraging one another. And, as we pursue this holy calling together, we must keep our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus and remember that it is only through Him that we have a sense of community; a sense of purpose, and a destiny to fulfil.

God has chosen us and gifted us to represent Him to the world, to our community. We are stewards together of that calling, stewards of the gifts He has given to us, and we must resolve increasingly to use them wisely, and with compassion and with kindness and with love. (REV DR STEVE GRIFFITHS)

Prayer Points: November 24, 2019

Sunday, (Nov 24) – Praise God that He has placed each of us in the Body of Christ, and has given each one gifts to build up the Body, His church. As the Lord has no greater respect or regard for one person over another, pray that we will not have a higher regard for some people, but not for others, and learn to recognise that everyone in the Body of Christ is important. Pray that every one of us will make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace in our homes, church and communities. Pray that God will give us grace to diligently seek after all those things that are well-pleasing in His sight, so that we may live in unity – one with the other, to His praise and glory.

Monday, (Nov 25) – The year end school holidays have just begun. Pray for families as they go on vacation – for journey mercies, good family bonding, and time to relax and recharge their batteries. Pray for the children and youths who will be going for Christian camps that God will nurture the soil of their hearts and grant them a greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, so that they will grow in the knowledge and grace of Jesus Christ. Pray that they will experience an ongoing transformation by having their minds renewed. Pray for God’s hand of protection upon them wherever they go.

Tuesday, (Nov 26) – Pray for the Nation: The Prime Minister said that a Cabinet reshuffle has ultimately become a necessity as critics have attributed the defeat of the Tanjung Piai by-election to underperforming ministers. Nonetheless, he warned that a Cabinet reshuffle may not be the answer to the government’s problems. In the event of a Cabinet reshuffle, pray for God’s wisdom upon the Prime Minister to come up with a Cabinet that will be competent and focused on rebuilding the nation.

Wednesday, (Nov 27) – Pray for the Kids’ Holiday Camp. Pray for more children to register for the camp, as around 110 children have registered so far. Pray for God’s guidance and wisdom upon the teachers and helpers as they prepare for the lessons, games, etc. in the camp, and for the worship teams as they practice for the worship sessions. Pray for God’s anointing upon the speakers, Pastor Steven Low and Brother Ponraj Navamani, as they prepare for the lessons. Pray also for the children, that God will enable them to understand the lessons, especially for those who do not understand English very well.

Thursday, (Nov 28) – Praise God that 3 of the Orang Asli (OA) children who will be staying in the Raub Orang Asli Hostel next year passed their UPSR exams. Pray that they will continue to do well as they move to secondary education. Pray also for Pastor Rizal, who works with the OA community in Pulau Carey, that the Lord will continue to bless the ministry, and that many of the OA there will come to faith in Christ. Pray that Pastor Rizal, and Pastors Reso and Norraini (in Kg Lallang & Kg Kerchau) will always be rooted in Jesus, and they will minister to the OA out of their abiding in Christ.

Friday, (Nov 29) – Pray for TRAC: Thank God for the smooth-running and success of the 44th Session TRAC at PDMC (November 16-18, 2019). Rev Chang Choy Quin will be transferred to Nusajaya Methodist Church (Johor Baru), and Rev Eric Tan will take her place as pastor in Life Methodist Church, Puchong. Pray for Rev Chang’s move, as both the church and the pastor have grown to love one another over her three and a half years of ministry in Puchong. Pray that Rev Chang will settle in well in her new church in 2020, especially since the potential for student ministry is great in Nusajaya. Pray for good relationship to be made with the leaders and members there.

Saturday, (Nov 30) – Pray for the World: Thailand is more than 90% Buddhist, and Buddhism is seen as an essential part of Thai identity. Christians are estimated to make up less than 1% of the population. Churches and evangelists can operate freely in Thailand, but converts are often marginalised and rejected for having embraced a “foreign” religion. Pray that those who have lost their families by leaving Buddhism to follow Christ will continue to be faithful to Him, and by their lifestyle and love, will win over their families for Christ.

Rejoicing In Trials

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. (Romans 5:3-5)

No one delights in suffering. It’s not natural to rejoice as we lose our job or wade through relational conflict. It doesn’t feel good to disagree with our spouse or be the recipient of an offensive comment. We like when things go our way—so when they don’t, it’s unsettling.

When Paul wrote to the Romans, he addressed their problems and trials. Yes, we live in a land where sin abounds. Yes, there will be political strife and moral decay. Yes, the future would be filled with question marks and suffering may lie ahead.

But Paul said we can still rejoice. How? How did he expect them to do that, and how does he expect us to do that today? Because of what we know.

Paul says we know what Jesus Christ has already done for us. We know how we stand in this place of undeserved privilege. We know that our endurance is being developed. We know our character is being strengthened. We know our confident hope of salvation will never disappoint. And we know how dearly God loves us and how He has given us the Holy Spirit.

So even when our plate is full of trials and challenges, we can have peace—because we carry this inside knowledge. We can look ahead and know how it’ll all pan out. Since God showed us His great love by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners, certainly He will not abandon us now. He will use it for good. Salvation is coming.

Reflect:
• How well do you know the Bible and God’s promises—are you familiar with His storyline? If so, do you trust His narrative and His promised ending? The more we know, the more we can rejoice in our current challenges.

• As a friend of God’s, you can approach His throne confidently and boldly. In prayer, lay your trials before the Lord today and find peace in knowing that He will help you in your time of need: “Lord, this is my plight and my biggest heartache: ___________. Bring your truth to light and help me to remember your promises, so I can find peace in the hope that does not disappoint.”
(EAGLE BROOK CHURCH)

Prayer Points: November 17, 2019

Sunday, (Nov 17) – Pray that the Holy Spirit will give us open hearts and minds so that He can move in us during the difficult times of our lives, and make us into the people He wants us to be. Pray that during times of trial and tribulation, we will be more aware of God’s grace and strength in our lives, that our trust and faith in God will increase. Pray that we will fix our eyes on Christ, and follow His example, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Pray that we, too, will learn to rejoice in our trials and sufferings, knowing that it produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope in us.

Monday, (Nov 18) – Pray for the Nation: Pray for the protection of every single elected official – Members of Parliament, State Assemblymen and Senators – from demonic curses and fear. Pray that those who have sought help from demonic forces in winning elections will repent. Pray for the protection of the well-being of senior civil servants, judges and law makers, that they will be able to execute God’s righteousness without fear or favour. Pray for good health for all the leaders in the federal and state governments.

Tuesday, (Nov 19) – Pray for the World: Pray for Hong Kong as the violence is increasing as protestors have escalated their actions, blocking thoroughfares across the city, disrupting rain services, and engaging in intense clashes with police as the anti-government demonstrations entered their sixth month. Pray that those who are instigating the violence will be exposed and brought to justice. Pray for God’s protection upon the innocent. Pray that God will raise up peace makers to intervene in the situation so that peace will be restored in the city.

Wednesday, (Nov 20) – Pray for the 4 Orang Asli (OA) students from Kg Lallang and Kg Kerchau who will be going to live in the OA Student Hostel in Raub next year as they begin their secondary school education. Pray that they will not be homesick, but will settle down quickly, adapt well to living in a hostel, and be able to make friends with the other OA students in the hostel. Pray that they will study hard and do well in their school work. Pray that the discipline of living in a hostel will help them develop their character. Pray also that the hostel will be able to get a good female warden quickly.

Thursday, (Nov 21) – There will be a meeting for the Cell Group Leaders and LCEC members who were not able to attend the Leaders’ Retreat held on October 26-28, 2019. Praise God that many CG leaders signed up for the meeting. Pray that the CG leaders and LCEC members who have not signed up will also come for the meeting. Pray for God’s wisdom upon Brother Jesse Teh and his team as they share with the people the results of the survey for the Cell Ministry in our church that was done in the middle of 2019, and also for the plans for the Cell Ministry in 2020. Pray that the CG leaders and LCEC members will be edified and encouraged by the meeting.

Friday, (Nov 22) – Pray for TRAC: By now, the appointment of all pastors for all TRAC churches in 2020 have been announced. Pray for pastors on the move. Pray that the pastors affected will surrender all their feelings unto the Lord. Pray for the transition period that it will proceed smoothly. Pray that all loose ends will be tied up before the pastors leave. Pray that spouses and children will be ministered to with love and grace. Above all, pray that the unity of the church will be preserved always.

Saturday, (Nov 23) – Pray for the Kids’ Holiday Camp 2019, for more children to come (so far 109 children have registered). The Sunday School will be sponsoring 24 needy children. As they are short of RM400, pray that they will be able to meet this shortfall. Pray that parents will see the importance of being the primary spiritual care-givers of their children, and they will come for the session on the last day of the camp (Saturday, December 7, 2019), so they will be able to learn what their kids learnt at the camp, and continue the lessons at home and beyond.
