Sunday School Fire Drill

Being a parent, it’s hard to educate or explain to children about fire safety. And at times, what’s told to children gets lost in translation.

Children today are bombarded with multimedia presentations, from TV, movies, cartoons, etc. Have you ever wondered how your children remember every single detail about the cartoon or movie show they watched months ago and they can tell you the story from A to Z!!?  They could explain the cartoon characters to you in detail.

As a parent and Sunday School teacher, yours truly (Uncle Johnny) was given a task of teaching our Sunday School children about fire safety.

The fire-drill held on March 6th, 2011, consisted of 2 parts. The first part teaching about fire safety and the second was the actual evacuation drill.

As the saying goes, ‘A Video Is Worth A Million Words, or more….’,  so I had to find materials on fire safety to educate our Sunday School children. Scouring the internet for that perfect video was like looking for a needle in a hay stack!! With God’s help, *phew*, I found a suitable material on youtube. It’s a video about fire safety, entitled “Be Cool About Fire Safety”. Alas, the video quality is not good enough to be shown on a BIG screen!!

With exact information, I scoured the internet again searching for this wonderfully made video. And finally, with God’s help again, *He is the God of the impossible, isnt He!!* found a good quality video.

When we started the video, the children’s eyes were glued to the video. Not a single children moved!! It contains stories, songs, jokes, fire safety points which are easy to follow, etc etc. Well, you get my drift! 😛 And the children love it.

Parents, you can view the same video which we have uploaded to youtube. Watch it with your children. Be educated and entertained about fire safety! And plan your own fire drills at home!!

After the video was shown, the children went back to their respective classes for the teachers to take down attendance.

We started the fire drill by first ringing the fire alarm bell. The drill is to let the children be exposed to the ringing sound of the fire alarm bell.

So while the children were in class, the bell rang loud, shrill and clear! Like obedient children that they are, they quickly came out from their classes, lined up in single file, and walked down the pre-assigned staircases led by their teachers – just like in real-life fires, no one is supposed to use the lifts.

The children reached the ground floor and made their way to the Methodist High School canteen where they assembled. We completed the fire drill – from evacuation of classrooms to the time the last child assembled at MHS – in about 7 minutes.

For doing a first-class job, everyone was treated to a snack of Twiggies and Vitagen. We hope we’ll never have to face a real-life fire evacuation, but we need to be prepared. Every one of God’s children is precious!! :!:

Let me stop babbling here for now. Look through the pictures of the children doing the fire drill.

Pssst…. Thank God, we only have 3 floors to walk down!! hahahaha…..

God’s Plumb Line – The Parable of The Leaning Tower of Pisa

In Scripture  God uses  the idea of a  plumb line  to describe  what He is doing  with  His people.  God  built His people like a straight wall–true to plumb.  When we depart  from Him, one of our problems is that we do not realize how far we have departed.  We often don’t  understand  how  seriously we  have

strayed from Him. We may not realize how close we are to complete collapse or destruction. In order to help His people God holds a plumb line beside His people so they can see how far they have departed.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a physical example of our problem. The walls are straight, but the whole building is leaning. The problem is with the foundation. If the foundation were firm and in line the walls would be in line as well. If we had a huge crane that could pull the walls to plumb again, the problem would still exist just as soon as we let the tower loose. Without a solid foundation the tower will fall right back to its crooked state.

In a similar way your spiritual life has its foundation in a love relationship with God. The way you live your life, your practice of your faith, your obedience to God’s commands can be represented by the tower. If your life is out of line with God’s plan, that is only the visible symptom of a root problem. The problem is in your love relationship. Jesus said, “He who does not love me will not obey my teaching” (John 14:24) but “if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching” (John 14:23).

God’s Word reveals God Himself, His purposes, and His ways. The Scriptures serve as His plumb line for us. When we can see that we have departed from His ideals, His purposes, His ways, and His commands, we can know clearly that we have a problem. The problem is that we have left our love relationship with Him. You cannot love God correctly and not obey Him. It is spiritually impossible. If you are not obeying Him, it is because you do not love Him.

Just changing your ways is not sufficient. Unless your love relationship with God is repaired, you will eventually go back to your old ways of living. The only lasting motivation for obedience to God is a sound love relationship with Him. If your love relationship with God is right, your life will line up with His standards.                                                        (CLAUDE V. KING)

Christian Health and Healing Seminar

Click here to invite someone to this seminar

The Holy Bible, the manual of our life, promises every believer premium health – physically, emotionally, and mentally. And above all these, spiritual life now and forever. Amen. But as we look around us, Christians are seen as vulnerable to diseases (physical, emotional, mental) as people of the world. But when we refer to the Bible, we are told to be “light of the world” and “salt of the earth”. How can this be possible, if we are bogged down by health degeneration?

The human body is almost always self-healing and self-renewing if given the right support: nutrition, right thinking, rest, sunshine and exercise. “Normal sickness” and “lifestyle diseases” are merely conditioning that we received from young. Thus, as we grow older, we accept them as part of life. We have been short changed.

In this seminar, we are going to question (?) some established theories or myths concerning health and disease, in the light of the Scripture. We are also going to learn the whole truth about Christian Health that will set us free from the sway of the wicked one.

Seminar Objectives :

  • Enable Christians to understand the principles and practice of total health from a biblical perspective.
  • Enable Christians to achieve optimal health so that they would become more effective a witness for God.
  • Liberate believers who are under the bondage of health deterioration (physically, mentally or emotionally) due to ignorance.
  • Support the church’s ministry and deliverance of the sick believers.

The Key Areas To Be Covered :

  1. God’s design & promise of health for every believer
  2. What are our roles and responsibilities in pursuing health?
  3. Robbers of vibrant health
  4. Christian medicine vs wordly medicine
  5. Healing tenets or doctrines to live by
  6. How to reconcile between prayers and works
  7. Law of cause and effect
  8. Miracles of obedience vs miracles of God
  9. Healing examples from the Bible
  10. Food for thought – Christian nutrition
  11. Seek peace and pursue it
  12. Case analyses – Patient profiles
  13. Biblical approach towards healing – what to do when you are sick?
  14. Treatment options available for believers
  15. Diseases affecting believers: heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer
  16. Holistic Communication in action
  17. Your purpose and passion in life

“Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” St Augustine

“They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing.” Psalm 92: 14

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8: 32

“God’s part you cannot do; your part He will not do.” St Andrew

About the speaker

Bro Andrew obtained his Naturopathic Doctor (ND) qualification from Trinity College of Natural Health, USA. He works with various alternative practitioners to help people find answer to their health problems, and conducts natural health seminars for corporations and churches. He is a practicing member of the Malaysian Society of Complementary Medicine.

Andrew was the director of training of an internationally affiliated training company before he was grounded at home for several years due to a health crisis. Symptoms started in 1995 and culminated in a near death situation by 1999, characterized by severe constriction and inflammation of the entire gastro-intestinal tract; profuse nose-bleed, muscle cramps, brain retardation and extreme chills. Having gone for a merry-go-round treatment with at least 36 medical and alternative doctors, Andrew was finally left alone to fend for himself. At 112 lbs. (from 165 lbs.) his fragile body was failing and degenerating rapidly.

With God helping him through extensive research and self-help, he is now being restored, and reaches out to others with his message, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE SICK.

Prayer Wins!

A missionary returning home from Africa, was sharing his story with his church family.

“While serving at a small field hospital, every 2 weeks I traveled to a nearby city for supplies.

On one of these journeys, I arrived in the city where I planned to collect money from a bank, purchase medicine and supplies, and then begin my 2-day journey back to the field hospital. Upon arrival in the city, I observed two men fighting, one of whom had been seriously injured.

I treated him for his injuries and at the same time talked to him about the Lord. I then traveled 2 days, camping overnight, and arrived home without incident. 2 weeks later I repeated my journey. Upon arriving in the city, I was approached by the young man I had treated. He told me that he had known I carried money and medicines. He said, ‘Some friends and I followed you into the jungle, knowing you would camp overnight. We planned to kill you and take your money and drugs. But just as we were about to move into your camp, we saw that you were surrounded by 26 armed guards.’

At this I laughed and said that I was certainly all alone in that jungle campsite. The young man pressed the point, however, and said, ‘No sir, I was not the only person to see the guards. My 5 friends also saw them, and we all counted them. ’ ”

At this point, one of the men in the congregation jumped to his feet and asked the missionary if he could tell him the exact day this happened. The missionary told the congregation the date, and the man who interrupted told him this story:  “On the night of your incident in Africa, it was morning here and I was preparing to go play golf when I felt the urge to pray for you. In fact, the urging of the Lord was so strong, I called men in this church to meet with me here to pray for you. Would all those men stand up?” The men who had met to pray that day stood up. The missionary wasn’t concerned with who they were, he was too busy counting how many men he saw. There were 26!

Fixing Your Eyes On Jesus

“He [God] is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11: 6 NKJV)

Diligently – what a great word. Be diligent in your search. Step away from the puny pursuits of possessions and positions, and seek your King.

God rewards those who seek Him. Not those who seek doctrine or religion or systems or creeds. May settle for these lesser passions, but the reward goes to those who settle for nothing less than Jesus Himself. And what is the reward? What awaits those who seek Jesus? Nothing short of the heart of Jesus. “And as the spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more.” (2 Corinthians 3: 18 NLT).

Can you think of a greater gift than to be like Jesus? Christ felt no guilt; God wants to banish yours. Jesus had no bad habits; God wants to remove yours. Jesus had no fear of death; God wants you to be fearless. Jesus had kindness for the diseased and mercy for the rebellious and courage for the challenges. God wants you to have the same.

He loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus.

Youth Fund Raising Car Wash 2011

Now, what’s this young man doing washing a car and why are these girls playing with water in church?

"Have sponge, will wash car..."

WAT-er blast!!

Well, Uncle Jothi was being his nice helpful self and lending a hand as the youth held their Fund Raising Car Wash on Sunday, 27th of February, 2011. The car wash was held as a fund-raiser for their annual Youth Camp. T’was a win-win deal – folks got their cars “professionally washed” at a nice price and the Youth raised money to help fund their camp!

Why People Follow After False Teaching And False Teachers

1) Ignorance: This is  by  far  the  main reason  why there are  so  many people who adhere to false teachings and flock to  see those  who   propagate  them – they  really  don’t   know  the  Bible   for themselves.  So,  rather  than spending time getting intimately acquainted with God’s Word, they lay all the responsibility on whichever false teacher they follow to teach them the Word and to be the mouth piece of God unto them.

2) They have itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3): Persons who have itching ears will only want to hear teachings that satisfy their lust. They only want to hear about how much God is going to bless them and open doors for them. They don’t want to hear a humbling message such as on the subject of repentance preached to them.

3) They have no love for the truth: The truth is never always comforting as it has a way of deflating egos and will bring correction. So, most people who like to remain in their comfort zone and do not want to be confronted about their sins simply turn their ears away from hearing the truth.

4) The elevation of man on a pedestal: It is always surprising to hear Christians say things like “Careful what you say about the man/woman of God” or “Touch not the Lord’s anointed”. All of this just goes to show the elevated level they have placed on a mere human so that in their eyes this person can do no wrong. This practice of elevating man higher than what God intended is nothing short of idolatry, as Jesus is the only Mediator between God and man; and He is the only One that is above reproach.

5) They are of the same mind as the false teacher they follow: The people who flock to hear false teaching and false teachers are of the same mind as them – they are often just as much lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

If people will only get back to having a love for the unadulterated Word of God and put Him first in their lives. Than the mouths of many false teachers would be stopped, and false teaching would not be so rampant in the church in these last days.
