Methodist Women’s Outing

On 26th February, the Methodist Women had a one day excursion.  There were all together 40 people and we left Wesley Klang at 7.15am  for Sungei Buloh, to the Health and Pharmaceutical Factory.  When we arrived, we were directed to a room where they gave us coffee, cakes and fried meehoon for breakfast .  We had  a briefing on the products supplements.  Most of the products are Chinese herbs (eg. Cordyceps, Ginkgo, Bazhen Powder, Hong Qu(Red Yeast Rice), Grape Seed Extract, etc. )made into tablets and after the explanation we were able to buy the products at a special price.  Many of the ladies made their purchased.

The Sesame Oil and Sauce Factory also at Sungei Buloh was very informative.  We were taken around the factory to see how the sesame oil  was pressed for the oil and later to see how they made the “black and light sauce” plus the “taucheo”.  This factory is family runned and the person described who long and how the sauce is being done.

We continued our journey to the Sea cucumber and Sea Product wholesale factory in Puchong.  Here we were given a simple lunch of  fried meehoon and fried rice.   Most of the dried sea products of various grades(sea cucumber, oyster, scallop, etc)  were displayed and the ladies could  make a choice to what they wanted to buy.  There were also some frozen food for sale and many of them took quiet sometime to choose and buy the sea cucumber and other products.

The next place we went was the wheatgrass manufacturer and here we wondered around the factory block which had all kinds of herbs planted in the front.  Many of us made an inspection of all the plants but we also fed the mosquitoes in doing so.  We were given a tour of the factory about the wheatgrass and the number of days and time in the planting of the wheatgrass.  We were also given a chance to taste the wheatgrass just by chewing them like how the cow chews their grass.  Its has a lot of fibre and eating them gives you roughage. Here the ladies also made several investments by purchasing their products to keep one healthy and wise.

We were then driven to the Chocolate Gallery in Kuala Lumpur and there were many little stalls for us to look around but by then many of us were very tired and hot.   We just made our arounds and got back to the bus.  Finally, we headed back for Klang at about 5.30pm to have dinner at Bukit Tinggi.  It was a very ravishing dinner and everyone of us were very hungry that we could have eaten a horse.

We thank God, for  giving us a fine weather and a wonderful time.  Perhaps, our next trip would be an overnight stay, depending on the response of the ladies.

Youth Talk on Homosexuality

Pastor Tryphena Law, the founder of Pursuing Liberty Under Christ (PLUC), gave a very educational, insightful and much needed talk on Homosexuality at a Youth Meeting on the 3rd of April 2011.

PLUC is an interdenominational evangelical ministry that helps those who seek to overcome homosexuality and provide support to their families. PLUC works with churches, NGO’s and individuals.

Pastor Tryphena was direct in her talk, and her frankness and honest delivery of an often “taboo” subject was refreshing. Not only did she go straight to the heart of the issue of homosexuality, but she opened her heart and shared her personal experience. The youth obviously enjoyed the talk and more importantly, she shed light and probably answered many, many questions that young people have about dealing with the issue and most of all, with their friends who are possibly gay or homosexual.

Parents were also present, and God spoke to them as well through Pastor Tryphena’s message. To listen to her talk on homosexuality, click the play button below.

Pride and Humility

Why is it important that we learn about pride and humility? Because humility is a prerequisite for receiving any benefits from Christ. Here is the same truth in the negative: pride is a barrier to receiving any benefits from Christ. Pride is that cork in the bottle under the waterfall of grace. It keeps the grace from entering. Humility is admitting you are needy, removing the cork.

The proud love to be accommodated by the best – the gourmet meal, the VIP treatment. Leftovers would be an insult. On the other hand, humble starving souls long for crumbs off the table, or under the table. Not a crumb is wasted on the humble. Humility is a prerequisite for receiving benefits from Christ.

God will test the humility of His servants:

 • Adam’s first test was a test of humility. Will he believe God, or will he assert himself to gain what he perceives as greatness – becoming like God Himself by eating of the forbidden fruit?
 • Jesus’ humility was tested in the wilderness for 40 days before His mission. Will He go the way of humility or will He assert Himself as king?
 • Moses’ humility was tested in the desert 40 years before he came to the burning bush.
 • Paul’s faith was tested by his “thorn in the flesh” and the lesson he learned was to see his weakness as his strength. It forced him to depend upon God.
 • Every man’s faith will be tested to see if we depend upon ourselves or upon God. This is the test of humility. The Gospel itself is a test of humility. Will we trust God for salvation, or believe we are good enough to stand before God on judgment day?

Humility has such a practical side to it. It is so mundane. It shows up in the little things. In a marriage relationship, it is humility that helps us to admit we are wrong. It is also humility that makes us easier to live with when we are right.

Knowing God makes us humble; knowing ourselves keeps us humble. True humility is not looking down on yourself but looking up to Christ.

Before God exalts a person, He humbles him. If you want that process to be less painful, humble yourself before God so He doesn’t have to humiliate you.

Sunday School Fire Drill

Being a parent, it’s hard to educate or explain to children about fire safety. And at times, what’s told to children gets lost in translation.

Children today are bombarded with multimedia presentations, from TV, movies, cartoons, etc. Have you ever wondered how your children remember every single detail about the cartoon or movie show they watched months ago and they can tell you the story from A to Z!!?  They could explain the cartoon characters to you in detail.

As a parent and Sunday School teacher, yours truly (Uncle Johnny) was given a task of teaching our Sunday School children about fire safety.

The fire-drill held on March 6th, 2011, consisted of 2 parts. The first part teaching about fire safety and the second was the actual evacuation drill.

As the saying goes, ‘A Video Is Worth A Million Words, or more….’,  so I had to find materials on fire safety to educate our Sunday School children. Scouring the internet for that perfect video was like looking for a needle in a hay stack!! With God’s help, *phew*, I found a suitable material on youtube. It’s a video about fire safety, entitled “Be Cool About Fire Safety”. Alas, the video quality is not good enough to be shown on a BIG screen!!

With exact information, I scoured the internet again searching for this wonderfully made video. And finally, with God’s help again, *He is the God of the impossible, isnt He!!* found a good quality video.

When we started the video, the children’s eyes were glued to the video. Not a single children moved!! It contains stories, songs, jokes, fire safety points which are easy to follow, etc etc. Well, you get my drift! 😛 And the children love it.

Parents, you can view the same video which we have uploaded to youtube. Watch it with your children. Be educated and entertained about fire safety! And plan your own fire drills at home!!

After the video was shown, the children went back to their respective classes for the teachers to take down attendance.

We started the fire drill by first ringing the fire alarm bell. The drill is to let the children be exposed to the ringing sound of the fire alarm bell.

So while the children were in class, the bell rang loud, shrill and clear! Like obedient children that they are, they quickly came out from their classes, lined up in single file, and walked down the pre-assigned staircases led by their teachers – just like in real-life fires, no one is supposed to use the lifts.

The children reached the ground floor and made their way to the Methodist High School canteen where they assembled. We completed the fire drill – from evacuation of classrooms to the time the last child assembled at MHS – in about 7 minutes.

For doing a first-class job, everyone was treated to a snack of Twiggies and Vitagen. We hope we’ll never have to face a real-life fire evacuation, but we need to be prepared. Every one of God’s children is precious!! :!:

Let me stop babbling here for now. Look through the pictures of the children doing the fire drill.

Pssst…. Thank God, we only have 3 floors to walk down!! hahahaha…..

God’s Plumb Line – The Parable of The Leaning Tower of Pisa

In Scripture  God uses  the idea of a  plumb line  to describe  what He is doing  with  His people.  God  built His people like a straight wall–true to plumb.  When we depart  from Him, one of our problems is that we do not realize how far we have departed.  We often don’t  understand  how  seriously we  have

strayed from Him. We may not realize how close we are to complete collapse or destruction. In order to help His people God holds a plumb line beside His people so they can see how far they have departed.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a physical example of our problem. The walls are straight, but the whole building is leaning. The problem is with the foundation. If the foundation were firm and in line the walls would be in line as well. If we had a huge crane that could pull the walls to plumb again, the problem would still exist just as soon as we let the tower loose. Without a solid foundation the tower will fall right back to its crooked state.

In a similar way your spiritual life has its foundation in a love relationship with God. The way you live your life, your practice of your faith, your obedience to God’s commands can be represented by the tower. If your life is out of line with God’s plan, that is only the visible symptom of a root problem. The problem is in your love relationship. Jesus said, “He who does not love me will not obey my teaching” (John 14:24) but “if anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching” (John 14:23).

God’s Word reveals God Himself, His purposes, and His ways. The Scriptures serve as His plumb line for us. When we can see that we have departed from His ideals, His purposes, His ways, and His commands, we can know clearly that we have a problem. The problem is that we have left our love relationship with Him. You cannot love God correctly and not obey Him. It is spiritually impossible. If you are not obeying Him, it is because you do not love Him.

Just changing your ways is not sufficient. Unless your love relationship with God is repaired, you will eventually go back to your old ways of living. The only lasting motivation for obedience to God is a sound love relationship with Him. If your love relationship with God is right, your life will line up with His standards.                                                        (CLAUDE V. KING)
