Speaker: Rev Gaurri Maniam
Sermon Title: Remembering the Lord your God
Scripture Text: Deuteronomy 8

Introduction

Riches and successes come from the Lord.

Explanation
I. Remembering our past journey is essential as it puts every season in its proper perspective.

II. Clinging on to the promises of God helps us to persevere.

III. Forgetting the Lord when times are good is a sign of pride.

Final Word
Gratitude is an act of remembering all that we have is indeed from the Lord.

Questions
1. Take a moment to recall your journey with God. What aspect of your past speaks about God’s presence in your life?
2. List down your life blessings and acknowledge them as a sign of God’s faithfulness.
3. How may you guard your heart against pride and forgetfulness?

This Week’s Prayer: 21st – 22nd Jan 2023

For all the possibilities ahead
in this new year,
make us thankful, O Lord

Give us wisdom, courage and
discernment in the face
of so much chaos, despair and fear.

Help us to see how,
in our circumstances, we can contribute
towards peace, faith and love;
and give us the will
to translate our desires into actions.

AMEN

Prayer List: 21st – 22nd Jan 2023

Sunday, (Jan 22) – Pray for all our brothers and sisters who are celebrating the Chinese New Year. Pray that as we celebrate the New Year, we may come to a deeper knowledge of who God is. Pray that God would use this festive season to cement all broken relationship within the family, friends and neighborhood. Pray also for those who are experiencing difficulty in life, that they will remember and trust in God and for those who have survived trials and tribulation, pray that they will remember God.

Monday, (Jan 23) – We give thanks for the Training & Equipping Committee of Klang Wesley. We also thank God for the survey that was carried out recently regarding topics in discipleship. Pray that God will lead and guide the committee as we meet to discuss the results of this survey. Pray that we will be able to cater to the needs of the church with regards to discipleship. Pray also that God will continue to instill a hunger for God’s Word in the hearts of our congregation.

Tuesday, (Jan 24) – In the midst of celebrating the Lunar New Year, as the dawn of a new year approaches, let us give thanks for all that we cherish: our health, our family, and our friends. Lord, help us to live the God-conscious way, to live each day in the most loving ways, and to lead the world from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth, and from wrong to right as we release our grudges, anger, and pains, which are nothing more than binding chains. Pray for unity, that be one in Christ, embracing all, may the lunar New Year be filled with God’s blessings of peace, joy and love.

Wednesday, (Jan 25) – Pray for the Nation : Pray for the prime minister’s reformist-emblematic theme “Malaysia Madani” which was recently consecrated as the government’s national philosophy and vision aimed at facilitating progress towards the heights of civilization, encapsulating six holistic and interconnected components; sustainability, well-being, creativity and innovation, respect, confidence and courtesy which will uproot deep-seated corruption, financial mismanagement and social disunity. Pray for the healing of our nation’s fractures caused by decades of harmful politics that have resulted in racial disharmony and divisions. Pray for godly wisdom and harmony as a united government to steer the nation forward.

Thursday, (Jan 26) – TRAC Board of Christian Education – Pray and commit to the Lord the upcoming Webinar on Salvation: Saved for Good?. Pray for the speaker, Bishop Dr. Gordon Wong as he prepares to speak on this important topic of our faith. Pray for good participation from the churches in TRAC. Pray for a sense of openness and eagerness to learn in the hearts of our people as they register for this webinar. Pray also for the webinar to be carried out smoothly with minimum hindrances and hiccups.

Friday, (Jan 27) – Pray for the church baptism & membership class for both adult (starts on Jan.29) and youth (starts on Feb.5). Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead and to provide His wisdom on the facilitators. Pray for the candidates that the Holy Spirit will prepare their hearts and minds, leading them to understanding and conviction that they will take a step of faith to proclaim Jesus as their only one true God and living Saviour, and to make a commitment to be His follower.

Saturday (Jan 28) – Pray for the nations where it is very difficult to profess their faith in Jesus. According to a source, 360 million Christians live in nations with high levels of persecution or discrimination, that is 1 in 7 Christians worldwide. Pray that God will protect each of them and keep every meeting safe. Pray that His Spirit will continue to encourage, equip and empower them to follow Jesus. Pray that God will meet their needs and provide them wisdom, boldness and discernment to know how to express their faith in the places where they live.

Sunday Morning Worship Service – 15th Jan 2023

Speaker: Rev Gaurri Maniam
Sermon Title: We are God’s Salt and Light
Scripture Text: Matthew 5: 13 – 16

Introduction

We as disciples must make a difference in this world.

Jesus uses two metaphors to teach about the importance of making a difference in the world.

I. The Salt Metaphor (v. 13)

II. The Light Metaphor (v. 14 – 15)

Final Word

We become God’s salt and light to the world when we live under the rule of God in His kingdom.

Questions

1. Reflect on how you have been salt and light in your world and how you may have failed in this respect.

2. What are the common reasons for such failures?

3. What specific steps can you take to improve your ministry as God’s salt and light in your world?

This Week’s Prayer: 14th – 15th Jan 2023

O God of love,
we ask you to give us love;
Love in our thinking,
love in our speaking, love in our doing,

And love in the hidden
places of our souls;
Love of those with whom
we find it hard to bear,

And love of those who find
it hard to bear with us;
Love of those with whom we work,

And love of those with
whom we take our ease;
That so at length we may
be worthy to dwell with you,
Who are eternal love.

Amen

Friday, (Jan 20) – Give thanks and bless the Lord for always teaching us the way of faith, for enabling us to cast our guilty souls upon the Divine propitiation, made in Christ Jesus, for peace, which has flowed into our spirit like a river ever since. Pray if our faith has been marred, or our hope is not as bright as it once was, or our love for Him is not as fervent as it once was, or if the soul is sinking under the pressure of the fight in any way, O merciful Lord, whose every word is music, whose every promise is balm, whose every touch is life, draw near to us now, refresh us, that we may rise again to the conflict, and never tire until the last enemy shall be beneath our Master’s feet. Pray that the Lord will restore our first love so that we can honor the Lord above all else, and that the church’s dividing walls will be removed.

Saturday (Jan 21) – Pray for brothers and sisters, family and friends who celebrate the New Year tomorrow. Pray that God is the centre of their celebration, for He is the faithful provider of all good things, and His name be praised among the people around them, too. Uphold in prayers that God’s presence and grace be with those who are unwell, those who are grieving, and those who are far from their homes and loved ones. Continue to pray for God’s healing upon China so that covid cases can be quickly brought under control and they can begin the new year without much anxiety or fear.
