Prayer Points: March 1, 2020

Sunday, (Mar 1) – Confess to God that in our own strength it is impossible for us to do everything with love. Pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us to love others as Christ loves us. Pray that God will use us to be vessels of love in the lives of the people we meet every day. Pray that no matter how difficult it is, as we look to the Lord, He will enable us to always respond out of love – not pride, or anger, or revenge. Pray that God will help us follow the example of unconditional love that He set when He sent His Son to the cross for us. Pray that we will always remember that acting out of truth and love is more important than winning at all costs.

Monday, (Mar 2) – Pray for the Nation: Praise God for His faithfulness and mercy to our nation, and pray that He will continue to show mercy upon our land. Pray that evil lies, conspiracy and injustice will not prevail, that God will cause confusion upon those who indulge in such wickedness. Pray that political leaders will not give in to temptations or threats, but will continue to serve the nation selflessly. Pray that God will grant the Agong wisdom to make the right ruling and decisions. Pray that the Church will rise up in prayer and intercession for the needs of the nation.

Tuesday, (Mar 3) – Pray for the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade ministries in Klang Wesley. Praise God for the increasing numbers of boys and girls joining the BB & GB respectively. Pray that our church members will rise up to meet the urgent need for volunteers to help in the junior section of the BB. Pray for wisdom upon the captains and officers of the BB & GB, that they will know how to handle issues the boys and girls are facing. Pray that the lessons the boys and girls learn will prepare them to be people of good character in the future. Above all, pray that the pre-believing boys and girls will respond to the Gospel, and accept Jesus as Saviour & Lord in God’s perfect timing.

Wednesday, (Mar 4) – Pray for the seniors in our church, that the Lord will bless them with good health, and with faith and strength to face the daily challenges of life. Pray that He will enable them to continue to grow in grace and in their relationship with Him so that they will have the assurance of God’s love and protection in their lives. Pray that God will grant the families of the elderly with wisdom, patience and love to care for those who once cared for them. Pray that God will send them understanding caregivers who will watch over them with love and gentleness.

Thursday, (Mar 5) – Pray for the Youth Service on Saturday, March 7, 2020, for God’s blessing and wisdom upon the youths as they prepare to lead in worship. Pray that more youths will come for the service. Pray for God’s anointing upon the speaker, Pastor Irin Tan, that He will use her as His vessel to speak into the lives of the youth. Pray also for the Youth Outing to District 21, IOI City Mall on Sunday, March 8, 2020, for journey mercies and safety for all those who will be going. Pray for a good time of bonding among the youths, and they will intentionally connect with newcomers.

Friday, (Mar 6) – Pray for TRAC: Whispering Hope Methodist Church (WHMC) celebrated its first worship service at Methodist College, KL (MCKL) on March 1, 2020. It was a long journey before God made it possible for the church to move into MCKL (on Sunday mornings). The main purpose is for students in MCKL to be able to attend WHMC in the times ahead, and for seekers to find Jesus as Saviour & Lord through the witness of WHMC. Pray for Rev James Ong and the leaders of WHMC, for unity of heart and mind to do God’s good work in a new setting. Pray that initial problems in this new transition will be solved quickly. Above all, pray that God’s name will be honoured and glorified.

Saturday, (Mar 7) – Pray for the World: The Church in Syria is experiencing division within their community. Pray that they will be restored and brought together with unity in Christ. Pray also for the Christians in Syria who are leaving their homes due to violence that they may return to build up the church.

Intentional Discipleship

Discipleship involves prayer, teaching, compassion, commitment, and the ability to lead by a godly example; some portions are passive, while others are extremely active and intentional. When Barnabas saw how Paul was being rejected in Jerusalem, he “took him and brought him to the apostles” (Acts 9:27). When he may have been concerned that Paul was discouraged; “Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Paul” (Acts 11:25). And when Mark was facing rejection and almost certain discouragement for future ministry, “Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus” (Acts 15:39).

Each of these events involved much more than a kind word as Barnabas continued on his own path. They involved evaluating the need, and then making the necessary changes in his own path to help meet the need – they involved being intentional.

There is certainly no better example of how to disciple others than Jesus. During His ministry on earth Jesus was an example to all who saw or heard of Him. He taught large groups and ministered to individuals at every opportunity. But with a specific group of twelve, Jesus gave an extra measure of His time and energy to help them grow closer to God and equip them for future ministry.

Luke 6:12-13 “Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, He called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated apostles.”

We ought to do more than encourage when it’s convenient, more than live a godly life and hope others will follow. In Jesus, we are given a wonderful example of choosing, through prayer, individuals whom we intentionally lead closer to God. This is clearly His command when Jesus says, “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).

I wish I could say it’s easy to “go and make disciples,” but it’s not. And I wish I could say I’m good at it, but I’m definitely not! Getting schedules and desires to match up seems to get harder all the time, and the process can often become quite discouraging. And yet, we must not give up. Jesus showed us the way and commanded us to follow; this is the only true plan for discipleship!

Let’s continue to lead through the example of a devoted and holy life, and encourage those in need at every opportunity. But let’s also take the next step and prayerfully identify those who will receive our special attention for an extended period of time. Let’s pour ourselves into others and help them grow closer to Jesus through intentional discipleship. (STEVE TROXEL)

Prayer Points: February 23, 2020

Sunday, (Feb 23) – Pray that God will give all of us in Klang Wesley the courage to intentionally step out of our comfort zones to become the disciple makers He has called us to be; that we be filled with the Holy Spirit who gives us the boldness for the work of making and multiplying disciples. Pray that we will be willing to make an unwavering commitment to a lifestyle to discipline ourselves so as to disciple others. Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict our hearts to be a powerful force for God and be truly committed to the task of making and multiplying disciples. Pray that the Lord will plant in our hearts a genuine concern for the lost so we will obey His mandate to make disciples.

Monday, (Feb 24) – Pray for the Nation: Scripture Union Sarawak (SUS) plans to visit the primary and secondary schools in Sarawak. Pray that God will protect and keep them safe from all harm and danger, sicknesses and diseases as they travel into the interior and remote parts of Sarawak. Pray that the Lord will lead, guide and grant the SUS staff wisdom as they work with the students. Pray that the school principals, Christian teachers and students will cooperate with the SUS staff. Pray that God will bless the work of SUS, and that the students will become faithful followers of Christ.

Tuesday, (Feb 25) – Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, that begins the season of Lent. Pray that during these 40 days, we will take time for inner reflection and examination. Pray that as we begin this Lenten journey with God. we will be honest with ourselves as we look into our hearts and souls, noticing the times when we turn away from Him, and that He will guide us as we humbly seek to repent and return to His love. Pray that the Lord will begin to transform us during this Lent, and give us the strength to commit ourselves to grow closer to Him each day. Pray for good weather and good attendance for the Ash Wednesday Service tomorrow as we come together to worship and seek the Lord.

Wednesday, (Feb 26) – Pray for the Baptism & Membership Class, that began last Sunday. Pray for the people who will be baptized, or received in church membership, that they will be able to attend all the classes. Pray also for the Youth Baptism & Membership Class, that will begin this Sunday, March 1, 2020. Pray that the youths and adults attending these classes will understand the foundations of the Christian faith, and will begin their journey as disciples of Christ.

Thursday, (Feb 27) – Pray for the ongoing Keys to Health, Wholeness & Fruitfulness (FIC), and XEE Semester 20. Praise God for all those who have joined these 2 programmes. Pray for strength and commitment for the participants so they will be able to come for every session. Pray that the participants will be blessed by what they are learning, and will put in application what they learn each week. Pray also for all those who are facilitating, for God’s wisdom and guidance upon them.

Friday, (Feb 28) – Pray for TRAC: Pray for Life Methodist Church, Puchong. There was a change in pastor at the end of 2019. The new pastor is Rev Eric Tan. This is the first time he is the pastor-in-charge of a local church. Pray for God’s wisdom upon him, and a servant heart as he pastors this congregation in 2020. Pray that the church leaders and members will get closer connected to the pastor. Pray also for the VBS (March 19-21, 2020) that has a dual goal of strengthening the faith of the church children, as well as reaching out with the Gospel to children who do not regularly attend Sunday School.

Saturday, (Feb 29) – Pray for the World: Praise God for the growth of His Church in Nepal. Pray that the Lord will strengthen the faith of the Nepalese Christians, as they are so vulnerable to being arrested and punished, just for speaking of their love for Christ. As they face the current legal situation in Nepal, pray that God will fill them with wisdom. Pray that the trials they face will produce perseverance and maturity, especially for the many who have only recently made the decision to follow Christ.

Walk On The Wet Side

“So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. ‘Save me, Lord!’ he shouted.”
Matthew 14:29-30

So typically when we hear someone teach on this passage the focus is on Peter’s failure to keep his eyes on Jesus. He let his impulsive arrogance deceive him into thinking he could do what Jesus was doing. Then his faith faltered and he was literally all wet. There’s a good bit we can learn by looking at it from that angle but there are a few other good insights we miss if we stop there.

First of all, don’t be afraid to ask God for the ridiculous. The other disciples were cowering in fear but when Peter realized that it was Jesus they were seeing on the water he said, “If it’s You, have me come out of the boat to You.” What a bold request! Most of us would’ve never thought to ask Jesus for something that ridiculous but Peter did.

Second, when God gives you a green light, go! When Jesus said, “Come,” how many of us would have stayed in the boat? How many of us would have said, “Are you sure?” Some of us might have gone to the edge and toe tested the water but not Peter. He was over the side of the boat and 100 percent all in. We should all be so obedient!

Third, remember that failure is part of learning to walk by faith. Refuse to allow the fear of failure to confine you to a comfortable, controlled and colorless life. You’ll never experience the great adventure God created you for if you don’t trust Him enough to take some God-led risks along the way.

So ask big, ridiculous things of God. He’s a big God! When God gives you the word, go! Don’t wait, negotiate or hesitate. If Jesus is calling you to the water, He’ll be your rescue if you start to sink. “Only God” stories are lived out only by those who ask big, risk all and step out. You are loved! (CROSSROADS CHURCH)

Prayer Points: February 16, 2020

Sunday, (Feb 16) – Praise God that He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide His people into all truth, especially those who seek Him with all their whole hearts. Pray that the Lord will make us hungry for His Word, so that we will diligently make time to read His Word every day. Pray that the Spirit of Truth will open our minds as we read and study God’s Word, and that we be willing to be led into all truth, and be taught what is the will of the Father for each of our lives. Pray that God will give us discerning hearts and minds when we study the Scriptures so that we will not be swept into the many wrong doctrines and false teachings that are sweeping through the Church of God today.

Monday, (Feb 17) – Thank God that He is the One who calmed the stormy seas, and that He is present with us, cares for us, and can calm the stormy waters of our lives if we look to Him and trust Him. Praise Jesus that is He is with us in the storm, praying for us in the storm, and will use the storm for our good. Pray that we will not fear but trust in Him when we go through storms in our lives, that we will learn to rely on Him, bring our problems to Him, instead of complaining about it to others. Pray that the Lord will make His promises and hope real to those who are struggling in a painful situation, strengthen them and give them His peace.

Tuesday, (Feb 18) – Pray for the Nation: Pray that God will reign over the politics of our nation. Pray for political stability, a sustainable government, transparent and accountable leadership, and servant-leader politicians. Pray for God’s wisdom and favour upon those elected who have sincere intents to build up Malaysia to be a united and progressive nation. Pray for good team work and unity among these like-minded leaders who are committed to rebuilding the nation.

Wednesday, (Feb 19) – Praise God for the Prayer Ministry in our church, for the 5 corporate prayer meetings each week, and pray that the Lord will protect this ministry, and make our church into a house of prayer. Pray that all who come for the prayer meetings will be sensitive to the presence of the Holy Spirit, and His leading and guidance so that all our prayers will be in line with the sovereign will of God for our church, our nation, and the world. Pray that everyone in the church will recognise that praying together as a church is God’s desire for all, and not just a few, and that more people will come for the corporate prayer meetings.

Thursday, (Feb 20) – The ElShaddai Tasik Permai Community Centre was set up 2 years ago to serve in an area in Ampang where there are Rohingya and Myanmarese families. Students from various ages have signed up for a combined class running at the centre, and classes are also conducted in the homes of children through family visitations. Praise God that the work in the community has been well received and is expanding. Pray for more volunteers to join as assistant teachers, assistants in community visitation, and men or couples to reach out to the Rohingya and Myanmarese male adults. Pray for God’s blessing and protection upon this centre.

Friday, (Feb 21) – Pray for TRAC: Pray for DUMC. This year is the year of outreach. The church will deploy all their Cell Groups to connect with ministry opportunities within the Klang Valley, rural churches, including Orang Asli ministry, ministries in East Malaysia, and even overseas. Pray that Cell Groups will sense God’s calling to go out and shine for Jesus as His witness.

Saturday, (Feb 22) – Pray for the World: Continue to pray for the novel coronavirus outbreak that began in Wuhan, that it will not evolve in a world-wide pandemic. Pray that God will grant the world leaders with the wisdom and courage to implement difficult regulations to contain the spread of the virus, and cooperate in all areas to find a cure for it. Pray for God’s comfort and peace upon those who are afflicted, and the families of those who have lost loved ones to the disease. Pray that He will protect those in the medical field and those involved in any way in this fight against the virus.
