Prayer List: 28 – 29, Aug 2021

Sunday, (Aug 29) – Pray that God will continue to shape and fashion us so that we will reflect Christ more and more in our lives. Pray that He will help us to be a people who are devoted to His Word, that we will be devoted to learning from the Bible together, whether it is through our online Worship Services or our Cell Groups, and we will be committed to attending these meetings, even when we are tired. Pray that we will be devoted to spend time together (via online now) to forge meaningful relationships. Praise God for all our corporate prayer meetings and pray for more people to join these meetings. Pray that we will be sacrificial in seeking to meet the material, emotional and spiritual needs of people during this season of the pandemic.

Monday, (Aug 30) – Pray that we as a church will learn to be still before new challenges and obstacles. Pray that we will learn to look back to the wonderful acts of God and be reminded of His unfailing presence as we walk in His divine plans. Pray for courage to move on as we put our trust completely in God. Pray for the church leadership as they discern together God’s plan for the church for the coming term (2022-2023). Pray that our ears be attentive to the leading and promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Tuesday, (Aug 31)Pray for the World: Last week, 2 suicide bombers struck Kabul airport in Afghanistan, killing 13 US troops and dozens of Afghan civilians. Pray for God’s protection upon all the people who are evacuating from the country. Pray that the country will not be a haven for extremists and terror groups. A new wave of refugees is expected to come from Afghanistan to many parts of the Middle East and the rest of the world. Pray for God’s protection and provision over them in their journeys. Pray also for God’s supernatural covering and provision for the Christians who remain in the country.

Wednesday, (Sept 1) – The COVID-19 cases mainly remained above the 20,000-mark in the past week, with high rate of cases in East Malaysia, and some of the northern states in Peninsula Malaysia. Pray that the vaccination roll-out will be speeded up in these states where the daily cases continue to be high. As anti-vaxxers are trying to get fake digital COVID-19 vaccination certificates, and their irresponsible action is a threat to public health, pray for a collective effort to clamp down on these fake vaccine certificates, from businesses checking them rigorously to reporting sites offering these fake certificates. Pray also that the rakyat will stay vigilant and continue to follow all the SOPs regardless of whether they have been fully vaccinated or not.

Thursday, (Sept 2)Pray for the Nation: Thank God that there is some form of political stability in the nation with the new government administration and new cabinet. Pray for uprightness, competency, effectiveness and integrity for all the MPs. During this time of crisis, pray that God will give all our political leaders wisdom that they may be able to do things beyond their understanding. Pray that God will help them choose the right paths when they make decisions on behalf of the nation. Pray that they will be humble and have respect for one another. Pray that, when they have differing opinions and agendas, God will transform their hearts and minds, and help them to work together for the good of the nation.

Friday, (Sept 3)Pray for TRAC: Pray for God’s guidance to be upon all Boards in the Trinity Annual Conference. Pray that as board members meet together to plan out their respective programmes for the coming year, they will be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s leading and promptings. Pray for wisdom as we seek to do ministry in the new norm. Pray for TRAC Bishop, Bishop Joshua Khong, as he leads the conference in accordance to God’s will.

Saturday, (Sept 4) – Pray for the youths in our church that God will protect them against the kingdom of darkness and against distractions from their focus on God’s will for their lives. Pray that they will have the fear of the Lord and a willing spirit to serve Him in the prime of their youth. Pray that the Spirit will birth in their hearts a love for God and for others, especially for their friends in Christ. Pray that they will be grounded in the truth of God’s Word. Pray that God will grant them clarity of mind and spirit in this age of confusion, and strength to battle mental and physical anguish as they are confined to their homes because of the pandemic. Pray for re-established faith for those who are discouraged.

Reflection: ARE YOU WEARY?

We all go through difficulties, whether health crises, financial crises, broken relationships with family or friends, personal failures and weaknesses or in general – experiences of deep pain and suffering. And we will continue to do so throughout our lives. Our faith is not “escapist.” A false promise that things will be just fine, if you have enough faith. No. This life is full of trials and God doesn’t just step in and take them all away.

And as we go through these hardships we can become overwhelmed, discouraged and faint. And even though we know that God has a purpose for each one of us, and that God has given us “His precious and very great promises” as 2 Peter 1:4 says; promises to help us, to save us and to bring us into His eternal kingdom – we too still doubt at times. We become fearful and exhausted. And in our despair we ask: Can God’s promises really be true? Is God really able to come through on them? And will God come through for me? We are tempted to give up, “to faint,” to give in to our weariness.

We need to hear and know that God is able to come through for us. For you and for me!

We may be overwhelmed by our circumstances, but God is not. Isaiah 40: 28 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable.” God is able to help us. God is able to keep His promises to us.

And we also need to hear and know that the Lord can strengthen us. We are to “wait for the Lord” – Isaiah 40: 31, knowing that He hears us and knows our situation. And we are to put our hope and trust in God and rely on Him. And when we do this God gives us of His strength. As Isaiah 40: 29 says, “He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength.

We tap into the strength of the Everlasting God Himself; we lean on Him, the One who never grows weary or faints. In this way, despite our troubles, our strength is renewed. As Isaiah 40:31 says, “the Lord shall renew their strength.” And through this strength we are empowered to move forward in our times of difficulty, because we hope in the Lord; because we know that He will fulfill His promises to us.

We can move forward. As Isaiah 40: 31 says, “They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” In the midst of our problems we will walk and not faint, we will run and not be weary, we will mount up with wings like eagles.

Are you weary today? Do you feel overwhelmed? God invites you to come to Him and find hope and strength.

(WILLIAM HIGGINS)

Reflection: BUILD YOUR LIFE ON A SOLID FOUNDATION: GOD’S WORD

The foundation of a house tells you how big the house can get. You can’t put a big house on a small or faulty foundation. It’ll collapse every time.

The same is true for our lives. You can’t become what God wants you to be on a faulty foundation. We’re given a lot of different options for what will be the foundation of our lives:

Popular culture. Some people think they’ll simply do what every other person is doing. If it’s popular, that’s what they do, too. Yet what’s popular today won’t be popular tomorrow. Basing your life on popular culture is like building a house on a constantly moving foundation. It doesn’t work!

Tradition. Other people build their lives on what has always been done or how their parents did it. That does make a little sense. Tradition becomes tradition because it works. But no tradition lasts forever. It eventually wears out, becomes obsolete, and is invalid. In Mark 7:8 Jesus tells the Pharisees never to put tradition before truth. It’s a good reminder for all of us.

Reason. God gave us the ability to reason; we need to use it. But our reason isn’t infallible. Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death”. The smartest among us will falter at times; it’s to be expected. Only God can be trusted all the time.

Emotions. Some build their lives on a feeling. If it feels right, they do it. But feelings lie — they lie all the time! You lie to yourself more than anyone else. If you live by your feelings, you’ll spend your life manipulated by your moods.

If it doesn’t work to build your life on popular culture, tradition, reason, or emotion, what should you build your life upon? GOD’S WORD.

Jesus says this in Matthew 7:24: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock”.

Popular culture changes, traditions grow stale, reason can be faulty, and emotions lie. Yet God’s Word never changes. You may not always understand His Word. You may not always like it. It won’t always be politically correct. But it’s the only thing stable enough to build our lives upon.

For Your Reflection

• On what have you built the foundation of your life? How is it holding up?

• What distractions in your life keep you from fully building your foundation on God’s Word?

• Why is it difficult sometimes to put God’s truth before tradition?

(RICK WARREN)
