Prayer Points: March 15, 2020

Sunday, (Mar 15) – Pray that the Spirit of God will ignite each of us in Klang Wesley with fresh passion for fulfilling His purpose in our lives. Pray that the Lord will fill us with His Holy Spirt, cleanse our hearts and minds, so we will reflect His righteous character, and His gracious compassion. Pray that God will forgive us for not being on fire for Him as often as He wants us to. Pray we will allow the Holy Spirit to flow through us, guiding and directing our steps, and rekindling in us a renewed zeal and passion for Him and His work in the world. Pray that we will serve Him out of love, and that Jesus will be seen in our actions and speech.

Monday, (Mar 16) – Praise God for the Connect, Equip, Mentor & Release Workshop that was held last Saturday, March 14, 2020. Pray that the Holy Spirit will seal into the hearts of all the participants what they have learnt in the workshop. Pray that it will not only be head knowledge, but the Spirit of God will enable the people to make it heart knowledge, so that they will begin to put into practice all that they have received in the workshop. Pray that the Lord will use the workshop to fulfill His will for our people to discipline ourselves so as to disciple others.

Tuesday, (Mar 17) – Pray for God’s wisdom and guidance upon our church leaders as they implement guidelines for organising our worship services, meetings, and programmes in the light of COVID-19. Pray for God’s protection upon all church members, especially the children and the elderly. Pray that our people will take personal responsibility for their safety, and cooperate with the guidelines the leaders have given. Above all, pray that we will trust that our God is sovereign, perfect and never makes a mistake, loves us and always have our best interests at heart. Pray that as we fix our eyes on Him, our faith will grow during this time of crisis.

Wednesday, (Mar 18) – Pray for the Nation: Praise God for the valiant and fantastic job that the Ministry of Health is doing as it battles the COVID-19 outbreak. Pray that God will grant them wisdom to control and prevent the virus from spreading. Pray that the rakyat will take personal responsibility for what they are to do, and cooperate with the health authorities to stop the disease from spreading. Pray for the health care workers – doctors, nurses, etc., especially those from the Sungai Buloh Hospital (which is now a disease control hospital for the contagious COVID-19), for protection from physical and mental stress, and breakdowns as they tend to infected patients. Pray also for protection for their families.

Thursday, (Mar 19) – Pray for the 21-Day Prayer Meetings that will begin on Sunday, March 22, 2020. Pray for God’s protection and blessing as we meet daily to seek the Lord in worship and prayer. Pray for the Lord’s guidance and wisdom upon all those who will be facilitating the meetings. Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict our church members to prioritise, and set aside time to come as a corporate body to pray for ourselves, our families, our church, our nation, and the world for such a time as this. Pray for a powerful presence of the Holy Spirit during all the prayer meetings.

Friday, (Mar 20) – Pray for TRAC: Pray for the wife and family of Rev Gomen. Rev Gomen passed away recently. He belonged to the Sengoi Mission Conference (TRAC). Pray for God’s comfort to be upon the family members, especially his wife. Pray that they will be able to cope financially. (Note: If you wish to help the wife financially, kindly get her account number from the church office.)

Saturday, (Mar 21) – Pray for the World: The World Health Organisation (WHO) said that COVID-19 has spread to 114 countries and has reached pandemic level. Pray for God’s guidance upon world leaders and the global community to double efforts to contain the outbreak, using aggressive measures to curb it. Pray especially for Italy and Iran, which are overwhelmed with infected cases. Pray for God’s divine intervention to bring the pandemic to a stop.

What To Do While We Wait

As we look at Mark 13:1-13, it would be better for us to ask ourselves some questions. Are we personally ready for Jesus’ Second Coming? Would it upset our plans if Jesus came back today? Would we want Him to wait a little longer? Even if we did know the hour and the day, would knowing that change the way we are living today?

The truth is really this simple: Jesus tells us that we are simply to be ready for it at all times. We are to each day live as End Time people. God knows us all too well. He knows that we like to be clock watchers, that we love to procrastinate, and that we will decide to only change at the very last moment.

God did not call us to be clock watchers and sign watchers. God called us to be Kingdom Builders! He wants us to be people who will live out each day the message of Love, the message of Grace, the message of Forgiveness, the message of Redemption and the message of Mercy.

So, what should we do as we wait for the Second Coming?

1. First of all we should live each day as our best day – as if it could be our very last day here on Planet Earth. We should challenge ourselves each morning as we get out of bed with this thought. If today were the last day in this mortal body how shall I live it to its fullest? How shall we live today as the best possible vessel of our spirit and the Holy Spirit?

2. Secondly, we should treat others as if today the LORD was coming again. We should allow our love, our joy, our forgiveness and our mercy rule our day. We should make sure that any minor disagreements, minor problems be taken care of in the name of Jesus. We should do all we can to be at peace with everyone. We should bury any hatchet, any grudge or anything that looks like unforgiveness.

3. Thirdly, treat all possessions as if they would become rubble and garbage tomorrow. Who wants to put their stock into things that will not be here 100 – 200 years from now? Why do we waste so much time building up things here on this earth when we know that we cannot take them to heaven? Let us remember the Parable of the Rich Fool who after building barns had to face his LORD empty of heart and soul. Rather, let us build up one another than bricks and mortar, wood and stone. Let us build up relationship that the Bible tells us can be everlasting.

4. Finally, let us work with the talents, resources and time we have already been given. While we wait for the Kingdom, let us do what we can to be Kingdom Builders here on earth. And that means reaching out to people. That means sharing the Good News. That means focusing on Jesus rather than on ourselves and our kingdoms. When Jesus comes again, He will come as King of Kings and Righteous Judge. He will judge us on how well we have done living out His life on His earth. How well we have been cultivating and working on our own personal relationship with Him, working on our interpersonal relationships with one another, and living a life that truly honors and glorifies Him. Pray that the messages will stir the hearts of the youths to pray for national concerns, especially in this time in Malaysia. Pray for journey mercies for all involved.

Saturday, (Mar 14) – Pray for the World: Pray for the children of persecuted Christian families around the world. Pray that God will be their Protector and Comforter in the face of danger and violence. Pray that such children will be enabled to break free from the cycle of poverty and illiteracy in a safe and nurturing learning environment. Pray that the Lord will lighten the path of persecuted children to grow up to be strong in their faith.

Do Everything With Love

Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love. (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)

Half the time I don’t respond with love towards others, or choose to love the people who are driving me crazy! Living in a world filled with unhappy, often demanding people makes it all too easy to rudely snap back. Responding in love is the last thing on my mind, especially when my buttons are being pushed. And yet, loving others is a command found over and over again in the Bible. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 is one of my favorite of the “love verses” because it offers a simple, step-by-step on guide on how to do everything with love.

A 3-Step Checklist for Doing Everything with Love

1. Be on guard. As you go through your day, there will always be that certain thing that pushes your buttons and sends you into the deep end. So can you identify ahead of time what sorts of things make you mad?

You may not necessarily be able to avoid these situations, but if you know your tendency to overact when these buttons are pushed, you can prepare yourself to respond in a calm manner. By choosing to be “on guard,” you can plan how you’ll respond and ask God to help you have the right response, too.

2. Stand firm in the faith. By starting your day with your attention on God through time spent reading your Bible will not only give your day a more positive outlook, but you’ll also be able to “stand firm in the faith” when the little things start to bother you. I’m not saying you need to have an elaborate 45-minute Bible time, but putting in a little bit of time to get your heart and mind right with God is one way to stand firm in the faith. Beginning your day with God can be as simple as a 5-minute devotion and prayer time. Another idea, is to memorize 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 and put it up in on your bathroom mirror or the first place you go in the morning, as a reminder for the day.

3. Be courageous. Be strong. The world is filled with temptations and obstacles ready to tear us down. Sometimes those challenges hit us out of the blue. Other times, they are predictable. Being strong and courageous in the Lord is how we are to face all of the difficult circumstances, and sometimes difficult people, that cross our paths each day. We don’t need to cower and run away. Nor do we need to be aggressive and rude. We simply need to be filled with the courage and strength God gives us, and by doing so, we’ll also be able to respond in love.

Mastering these three steps is not a guarantee that we will be respond in love with everything that we do, but it will definitely move us in that direction. Yes, there are still going to those moments that we fail to respond in love, but if we keep this instruction from 1 Corinthians in mind, we’ll better prepared to love those God has put in our lives.

What does it look like to you to be on guard, stand firm in your faith, and be strong and courageous, so that you can do everything in love? (LEAH PULLIAM)

Prayer Points: March 1, 2020

Sunday, (Mar 1) – Confess to God that in our own strength it is impossible for us to do everything with love. Pray that the Holy Spirit will empower us to love others as Christ loves us. Pray that God will use us to be vessels of love in the lives of the people we meet every day. Pray that no matter how difficult it is, as we look to the Lord, He will enable us to always respond out of love – not pride, or anger, or revenge. Pray that God will help us follow the example of unconditional love that He set when He sent His Son to the cross for us. Pray that we will always remember that acting out of truth and love is more important than winning at all costs.

Monday, (Mar 2) – Pray for the Nation: Praise God for His faithfulness and mercy to our nation, and pray that He will continue to show mercy upon our land. Pray that evil lies, conspiracy and injustice will not prevail, that God will cause confusion upon those who indulge in such wickedness. Pray that political leaders will not give in to temptations or threats, but will continue to serve the nation selflessly. Pray that God will grant the Agong wisdom to make the right ruling and decisions. Pray that the Church will rise up in prayer and intercession for the needs of the nation.

Tuesday, (Mar 3) – Pray for the Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade ministries in Klang Wesley. Praise God for the increasing numbers of boys and girls joining the BB & GB respectively. Pray that our church members will rise up to meet the urgent need for volunteers to help in the junior section of the BB. Pray for wisdom upon the captains and officers of the BB & GB, that they will know how to handle issues the boys and girls are facing. Pray that the lessons the boys and girls learn will prepare them to be people of good character in the future. Above all, pray that the pre-believing boys and girls will respond to the Gospel, and accept Jesus as Saviour & Lord in God’s perfect timing.

Wednesday, (Mar 4) – Pray for the seniors in our church, that the Lord will bless them with good health, and with faith and strength to face the daily challenges of life. Pray that He will enable them to continue to grow in grace and in their relationship with Him so that they will have the assurance of God’s love and protection in their lives. Pray that God will grant the families of the elderly with wisdom, patience and love to care for those who once cared for them. Pray that God will send them understanding caregivers who will watch over them with love and gentleness.

Thursday, (Mar 5) – Pray for the Youth Service on Saturday, March 7, 2020, for God’s blessing and wisdom upon the youths as they prepare to lead in worship. Pray that more youths will come for the service. Pray for God’s anointing upon the speaker, Pastor Irin Tan, that He will use her as His vessel to speak into the lives of the youth. Pray also for the Youth Outing to District 21, IOI City Mall on Sunday, March 8, 2020, for journey mercies and safety for all those who will be going. Pray for a good time of bonding among the youths, and they will intentionally connect with newcomers.

Friday, (Mar 6) – Pray for TRAC: Whispering Hope Methodist Church (WHMC) celebrated its first worship service at Methodist College, KL (MCKL) on March 1, 2020. It was a long journey before God made it possible for the church to move into MCKL (on Sunday mornings). The main purpose is for students in MCKL to be able to attend WHMC in the times ahead, and for seekers to find Jesus as Saviour & Lord through the witness of WHMC. Pray for Rev James Ong and the leaders of WHMC, for unity of heart and mind to do God’s good work in a new setting. Pray that initial problems in this new transition will be solved quickly. Above all, pray that God’s name will be honoured and glorified.

Saturday, (Mar 7) – Pray for the World: The Church in Syria is experiencing division within their community. Pray that they will be restored and brought together with unity in Christ. Pray also for the Christians in Syria who are leaving their homes due to violence that they may return to build up the church.
