The Power Of Persistent Prayer

Jesus taught us – we should always pray and not give up.

We should be like the 3-year-old boy who went to the grocery store with his mother. Before they entered the grocery store she said to him, “Now you’re not going to get any chocolate chip cookies, so don’t even ask.”

She put him up in the cart and he sat in the little child’s seat while she wheeled down the aisles. He was doing just fine until they came to the cookie section. He saw the chocolate chip cookies and he stood up in the seat and said, “Mom, can I have some chocolate chip cookies?” She said, “I told you not even to ask. You’re not going to get any at all.” So he sat back down.

They continued down the aisles, but in their search for certain items they ended up back in the cookie aisle. “Mom, can I please have some chocolate chip cookies?” She said, “I told you that you can’t have any. Now sit down & be quiet.”

Finally, they were approaching the checkout lane. The little boy sensed that this may be his last chance. So just before they got to the line, he stood up on the seat of the cart and shouted in his loudest voice, “In the name of Jesus, may I have some chocolate chip cookies?”
And everybody round about just laughed. Some even applauded. And, due to the generosity of the other shoppers, the little boy and his mother left with 23 boxes of chocolate chip cookies.             (Jeff Strite)

Don’t stop praying about something just because it hasn’t been answered within a few days or weeks. Keep pressing on. This is exactly what Jesus commands us to do. In Luke 18:1, the Bible says: “And He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to lose heart.” The fact that Jesus told a parable to this effect indicates that He knew we would be tempted to lose heart. Which means He knew that many of the answers to our prayers wouldn’t come right away. And His point was: “Keep praying. The fact that it doesn’t seem like the answers are coming does not indicate that they won’t. Sometimes you have to be more persistent than you think.”

(Matt Perman)

“The great fault of the children of God is, they do not continue in prayer; they do not go on praying; they do not persevere. If they desire anything for God’s glory, they should pray until they get it.”

(George Muller)

Melchizedek In The Bible

Abraham receiving the blessing from Melchizedek

Abraham receiving the blessing from Melchizedek

One of the most mysterious people in the Bible is the king of peace, Melchizedek. He appeared one day in the life of Abraham (then Abram) was    never   heard    from    again.

However what happened that day would be remembered throughout history and eventually became the subject of a New Testament letter (Hebrews).

This meeting between Abram and Melchizedek was most unusual.  Although they were strangers to each other, they shared a most important characteristic: both worshipped and served the one God who made heaven and earth. This was a great moment of triumph for Abram because he just defeated an army and regained the freedom of a large group of captives. If there was any doubt about whose victory it was, Melchizedek set the record straight by reminding Abram, “Blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand” (Genesis 14:20). Abram recognized that this man worshiped the same God as he did with this statement.

Melchizedek was one of a small group of God honoring people throughout the Old Testament who came in contact with Jews (Israelites) but were not Jews themselves. This meant that the requirement to be a follower of God is not genetic, but is based on faithfully obeying His teachings and recognizing His greatness.

Are you aware of the similarities between yourself and others that worship God, even if their form of worship is quite different than yours? Do you know the God of the Bible well enough to know if you truly worship Him? By reading the Bible and getting insight into these great men of God, we begin to understand who this great God the Creator of heaven and earth really is. It will show you how much He loves you and desires that you know Him personally. It will show you His awesome power and love He has for you. What a great feeling in knowing that your Father in Heaven is so powerful that no one better mess with you. What a feeling to know that your Creator and Father in Heaven is so powerful that He could lift one finger and destroy an entire nation. Yet He calls you His child, and wants to have a personal one on one relationship with you. Try asking the President out to lunch and see how far you get. Ask God and He will be there for you!

Live for God and you’re likely to be at the right place at the right time. Examine your heart: To whom or what is your greatest loyalty? If you can honestly answer God, you are living for Him.      (SOURCE UNKNOWN)

XEE Traning Testimony – Pelita Chuah

In XEE we are trained to connect with people and ask relevant questions and equipped to share whole gospel systematically.

When I did connecting activities, I discovered that there were so many pre-believers at our church door step, yet we have not shared the gospel with them and some heard the Gospel for the first time after so many years coming to Church for activities. I am glad through XEE, I had the opportunity to share the Gospel with them.

We have very good & experienced trainers and they are very funny too. They made us laugh a lot.

The 10 Sunday afternoons was well-spent!

XEE Training Testimony – Bryan Ang

How have you grown as a result of XEE?

Firstly, XEE has causes me to reach out and share the gospel to people more boldly and confidently as compared to last time. It has also taught me how to. share or evangelize the gospel in a non- threatening ways to the unbeliever by using a series of guidelines. Secondly, even as I am sharing XEE with people, it actually renews my faith and drawing me closer to God through my sharing. Moreover, it also helps me fulfilled the Great Commission commanded by Jesus Himself which is to make disciples of all nations. Thirdly, I find XEE very efficient because it talks about how we have sinned against God and also how imperfect our lives is without God, which I found most gospel sharing is lacking nowadays.

What impact it has made on your life?

Personally, it has made me realize I need to reach out to the pre believer even more. As a Christians, I .often scared to share my faith with my friends due to the fear rejection and also sharing it wrongly. However, learning XEE has broadened my understanding of who God is and therefore it helps me overcome my fear. XEE not only helps me in sharing the gospel, but it also helps me realize the importance of building friendship or relationship with people especially those whom I have been acquaintance with. I believe through building friendship, my testimonies can be an impact.

Furthermore, XEE also requires me to find a prayer partner to pray together in which I find it helpful cause it has make me realize how important prayer is throughout doing my connecting activities with people and trying to open up their hearts for God.

How might you help others to benefit?

By telling them the importance of sharing their faith in wherever they are such as colleges or workplace. Moreover, sharing with them what I have learned from my experiences in joining XEE and how it has been impactful towards me.

Who will you invite to join XEE and lead in the next cycle of training?

most probably invite my church members, cell members or Christian’s friends; especially those who do not know how to evangelize yet to join XEE as I believe it will help them. I will also most probably be leading in the next cycle of training if I had the time as I feel I should train others to further improve myself in the sharing of XEE.

XEE Traning Testimony – Britannia Ang

How have you grown as a result of XEE?

I have grown in many ways as a result of XEE. One of them includes the growing concern for the lost and unsaved. I used to be quite apathetic about this and didn’t really care much about the salvation of others, not even those of my own friends. But I begin to see the reality and importance of sharing this love that God so freely gave and is now giving to everyone who would come to Him.

I also realized how easy it is to just miss that many opportunities God had given us to share the good news with others. Through XEE, I became more sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit regarding the spiritual needs of others. XEE also gave me the confidence to share the good news with others and at the same time, relying on the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart of others.

What impact has it made in your life?

I recognized that as a Christian, I am entrusted with the Word of God, and not sharing it with others would be selfish and sinful since Jesus Himself commanded us of the great Commission. There is a great harvest out there and people wouldn’t know about God and what He had done if we do not share it with others. I think Christians are actually channels of blessings in the lives of others whether spiritually, emotionally or physically. We have the privilege to make an impact in the lives of others based on our personal testimonies.

I used to be afraid of sharing my faith in God with others because I thought that if my life didn’t reflect what and how a good Christian should behave, then sharing my faith would be some sort of a joke or embarrassment. However, I learned that we shouldn’t be ashamed or underestimate the sharing of the word of God because it has the power to save. Secondly, we are all work in progress and will never be perfect until we see God face to face. Therefore, we should look as Jesus as the role model.

How you might help others to benefit?

Share the contents of XEE or about XEE to followers of Christ, as well as my experiences during the course.

Who will I invite to XEE?

Some of my Cell Group members.

XEE Traning Testimony – Lim Jit Ling

I am glad I participated and successfully completed the XEE course. I learned EE several years ago, and was very impressed of its non-threatening approach to sharing the gospel. Now that XEE is available, I signed up to learn this ‘updated’ version of the EE to reach out to the younger X-generation.

I found the presentation structure very systematic, easy to remember and language used contemporary and acceptable by secular people. The flexibility allowed in adapting the story or example to suit the individual prospect is a big advantage as I can express myself more naturally depending on the situation and prospect. I found the XEE to have lesser items to memorize, and the subject flow and links from one section to another is memory-friendly. In other words, comparing with the EE, this is an easier evangelistic tool to learn.

I’m very encouraged and have more confidence of sharing the gospel with people of all ages with the XEE approach, and I look forward to applying it when sharing the good news with anyone in the future.

XEE Training Testimony – Courtney Teoh

How you have grown as a result of XEE?

I understand fully how to present the Gospel, and I’ve learned more about the flow of sharing the Gospel, and it has sharpened my mind, so that I have a clear conscious that there are some key points regarding to the Gospel. Besides that, the content of XEE has assured me of my salvation and increase in my spiritual life.

What impact it has made on your life?

An eye opener for me to reach out the Gospel to the young generation, and a tool for me to share the Gospel with my siblings and friends. And it makes me bold enough to take initiative to dare share the Gospel to whoever I meet at anywhere and any places.

How you might help others to benefit?

As I am Chinese educated, I am able now to use XEE in Chinese to share with the Chinese speaking people. Besides that, I will challenge the church members to join XEE. Hopefully, I will introduce XEE in my future ministry in other church.

Who you will invite to join XEE and lead in the next cycle of training?

At the moment, I have no one in mind and I am still considering about it.
